Dee's House Homestay

Individual bamboo houses on a hillside are echoes of the ancient mountain lifestyle of the resourceful industrious people known as the Shan. This is not your standard five star hotel and will be for most visitors a new experience. I shall be 70 next year. The agreement to climb a steep hill to sleep in a bamboo hut on an unusually cold wet night was made with some misgivings. I need not have worried. By next morning after long conversations with the local owner, a warm blanket and delicious Shan breakfast I was reluctant to leave. I am left with new understandings and new memories. I have somehow been somewhere and learnt something, making my time in the North of Thailand so much more more worthwhile. If you are a traveller who would like to talk to someone who knows what life was and is really like here, pay them a visit.
