Libong Relax Beach Resort

We arrived by longtail boat from Ko Muk, onto the beach directly in front of the hotel and my first reaction was 'wow' and that feeling remained with me for our three night stay. The beach was lovely and quiet, just the occasional couple taking a stroll. It didn't have the white talcum powder sand of Ko Kradan or Ko Lipe nor their crystal turquoise waters but it did have soft sand and blue sea and tranquility. Snorkelling from the beach was good but not great. We had a beachside cabin with a ceiling fan and a mosquito net over the bed. It also had a veranda and a 'front garden' with a couple of sunbeds, and just a few steps to the beach. Perfect. Great massage beside the beach. A few little benches near the bar to watch the sun go down. Great food in the beachside open-air restaurant, complete with hermit crabs out for their evening stroll around the tables, on the beach, everywhere! We went on the dugong spotting trip offered by the hotel. The price is per boat so it is quite expensive if just the two of you but you can sign up and hope that others are also interested. We shared our boat with another couple and had a brilliant time, mainly due to our captain who was so enthusiastic about seeking out these wonderful creatures. I think our trip must have gone on for an extra hour as he wouldn't give up searching and to his immense credit, we had nine sightings. We followed one in the shallow water for a good 45 minutes. Highly recommended. Your room booklet asks you to keep windows closed to keep the monkeys out. We didn't see any monkeys but they came to visit our semi-open-air bathroom one afternoon. We found our toothpaste and body lotion behind our cabin and they'd thrown everything else into the sink! Fortunately we always kept the door locked from the bathroom into our room so they didn't get a change to raid our bedroom! Libong Relax Resort is a special place, one that stands out from the rest on our 4 week trip around Thailand. It is perfect for a get-away-from-it-all break. This was the one place that we would have loved to stay a bit longer but we already had accommodation booked in Ko Lipe so had to move on.
