Altstadt Hotel

Loved this quirky boutique hotel in Old Town for our one night in Zurich at the end of our trip! The receptionist/bar tender on arrival was very friendly and helpful. Both rooms we had were on the 5th floor “attic” level (yes, there’s a lift!) and had amazing old, exposed beams and a lovely view of the nearby cathedral’s towers from our skylight. Very clean! Air conditioning kept the rooms cool. (Perhaps not great rooms though if you are tall, as the ceiling slopes down on one side.) Loved the comfy bed and duvets, and the modern decor with the authors theme in such an old building. The bathroom was on the small side, but we expected this for this type of hotel in this location. We used the squeegee found under the sink for floor overspray from open shower door, and we were careful to angle the shower head inward. The shower might not be comfortable for a larger person. (No idea what the bathrooms on lower floors are like.) We enjoyed wandering around the old town in the evening which has a lively bar and restaurant scene and lovely views along the river. Our teenage boys loved the hotel’s summer treat of free ice cream snacks! We had added breakfast to our stay, and it was a lovely buffet in a very pretty breakfast room. We would definitely stay here again! Tip: Figure out the tram system ahead as it’s mostly cobblestones to pull suitcase along for 15-20 min walk from the main train station. (2 min walk from tram stop)
