The hotel on the outside seemed rather drab, but once we got in and up the floor we were staying it was much nicer. 
The room was very nice and very warm I had to open the window because it had gotten to warm.
The shower and sink were brand new and very stylish.

The beds were very hard, and we could hear anytime someone on our floor would use the sink, tolet, or shower.

Close to the Olympic Stadium

•	1 to 2 Minutes walking distance from intercity bus terminal and taxi station (near turnaround),
•	The hotel is between intercity bus terminal and turnaround, near policy station,
•	Good location, convenience for public transport (bus, taxi station) , many restaurants around, supermarket, convenience store in 1 to 3 minutes walking distance,
•	10 minutes driving distance to Olympia field,
•	Staff is ok, but always nobody in reception area, please phone them, press the bell or go inside the restaurant, don’t know English and Chinese,
•	Korea style breakfast provided,
•	Assigned wrong bed type, need 45 minutes to fix (double check, change, clean),
•	No lift between floors, please consider if you have big / heavy luggage and please make sure you can help yourself to move up and down,
•	Hotel and Room is old, dirty and small, found quite a lot hairs in bed, pillow, towel… most terrible are some insect jump on the bed, I’ve to wear long always (sleep as well), but still bite a lot…

I visited Yongpyong 3 times for ski holidays, and twice i stayed at this property - Dec 2014 and Dec 2015. We booked a twin room and a 4 person room. 

Given the prices of the accommodation at Yongpyong resort itself, this accommodation at Hoenggye is certainly a steal.  The B&B is average and basic. The rooms are a tight fit especially when ski clothing is bulky and perhaps need some room for drying.  The toilet doors are frosted in the middle, and transparent at the tops and bottoms. So you might need to feel comfortable with your room mate before booking this accommodation. The toilets do not dry out so easily, and there may be a damp smell, which might not be so pleasant for some. For me, the price difference between this property and those at the resorts, and the food options around more than makes up for it. 

Within walking distance from the property, there are many dining options and fresh food markets (but there is no kitchen for cooking in this property).  The bbq restaurants prices are way more competitive than at the resort. 

In terms of convenience, this property can arrange for ski gear to be rented from a shop they work with.  You need to enquire at the front desk, and arrange for the skis to be fitted the night before when u wan to start skiing to save time the next morning, giving you more time on the slopes.  Then arrange for a pick up time in the morning, where the ski shop will drive the fitted set of ski equipment to the property and then drive us to the ski resort. Similarly, in the evening, we agreed on a pick up time from the ski resort back to the property. It would be better to communicate pick up times in writing, as the ski shop employees/bosses english is limited. 

After returning from the slopes, you can conveniently catch a ski bus back up to yongpyong for the evening should you want to wonder about after changing into comfortable clean clothes. The bus stop is less than 5 mins walk away from the property, and theres a time table for it, so you need not wait too long in the cold. 

Across the property, there is a bakery Paris Baguette. It opens till late, so it is very convenient to grab a bun for breakfast, or a snack for the next day. The cakes are lovely too.... I visited it almost everyday i was there during both my trips. 

the bus station for buses to Seoul is about 10 mins walk down the street to the right of this property after u exit. Very convenient as well. 

As there may not be many other properties offering such competitive rates on english booking sites, it makes this property quite value for money. I will be happy to return next time I am in Korea to ski.

convenient, affordable accommodation for skiing at Yongpyong

I originally wrote a review on the agoda website but after submitting twice, it was never captured. Not sure why but perhaps because I gave a bad review.

I originally booked this hotel as I read many good reviews on the agoda website. We stayed for three nights from 21st Dec 2014 to 24th Dec 2014.  We paid about USD100 per night for an ondol room (traditional room where guests sleep on bedding placed on a heated floor). All we were expecting was a basic room that was clean for the price we paid.

When we arrived on the first day there was no one to greet us at the reception. After calling out a few times, a man in his early 50s came out from a small room behind the counter.  Clearly we had woken him up (we arrived at around noon) from a nap. Unfortunately he had also clearly had a lot to drink and smelled very strongly of alcohol.  We found out later that he was the owner but unlike what we read in the reviews, he was NOT friendly and did not offer us any  additional services like recommending ski rental companies nor a ride to a sheep farm. We only saw him one other time and he did not even say a "hello" to us.

The rooms were shabby, Not shabby chic but just shabby. The floors were only heated from 8pm to 10am so if one decides to nap in the afternoon, be prepared to nap on a cold floor. Bed lines may have been clean but it was difficult to tell as it was very worn out and had stains. The room also smelled very badly of cigarette smoke.  After staying there three nights all our clothes smelled of cigarettes.  The smoke seems to have permeated the room and the stained wallpaper. We used up an entire bottle of Febreze on our clothes. No housekeeping just a daily change of small hand towels and collection of rubbish. We noticed that the bar soap in the bathroom was a used bar.

Although breakfast was provided, it was the same everyday:
Rice, stirfry beef, kimchi, hard boiled eggs, white bread toast with jam and margarine, Frosties with milk, Coffee and bottled orange juice and some kind of chicken soup made from instant powder mix. It would have been better if 1-2 items was changed every other day.

All in all, a very disappointing stay.

Tired Rooms, Tired Owner and Tired Breakfast

Our stay at Goodstay Daegwlnyeong Sanbang was remarkable. The owners, Mr Oh and his wife, Mrs Pak, were thoughtful and hospitable. On the first day of arrival, Mr Oh drove us to a nearby sheep farm and even bought ramen for us. We had a good time running in powdery white snowy fields and patting woolly sheep. The next day, he too offered to drive us to places we wished to go but we declined gently as we did not wish to bother him.  He then gave us his number for contact in an event of an emergency. That was reassuring as we had young kids travelling with us and as city dwellers, travelling in the snowy mountainous areas was somewhat daunting.  Hoenggye is a small town with nothing much to do. Shopping is definitely not available (unless you are looking for local produce) but there are two bakeries across the street. One of them is Paris Baguette. For those who love skiing, Goodstay Daegwlnyeong Sanbang is a good alternative if you do not wish to pay too much staying at the ski resort. It is close to two ski parks - Alpensia and Yongpyeong. We met several skiers from Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia who based there and made use of the discounted ski gears and lift pass offered by Mr Oh. The reason we stayed at Hoenggye was for our ice fishing trip in Jinbu. The hotel is closed to the town's bus terminal, which is a mere three minute walk away. There are regular buses that go to and fro the two towns. Each way is only a fifteen minutes ride and the journey is filled with picturesque snowy mountains and rivers. We shared some our catch with Mr Oh and Mrs Pak and they were delighted. The next day, they cooked the fish for our lunch. When we had to head back to Seoul, Mr Oh drove us to the bus terminal and bought us some snack for our five hours journey. Upon leaving the place, we did not feel we just check out of hotel, we felt we had just left home.
