Very nice, quiet place to spend some time in the middle of Transylvania. Excellent views, mountains, forest everywhere, rivers, nature, wild animals when you're lucky (but be careful!). Hotel small and lovely (and new I think), rooms quiet, clean with everything what you need. Free parking and WiFi. Service great. And bonus - brilliant restaurant on the corner. Highly recommended.

Great!

We spent 5 nights in this hotel during high season (30 dec - 4 jan) having a room for 90€/night. The main positive thing is the kindness of the staff. They were all very helpful and nice. Just perfect. The room n7 was rather spacious, clean, with a nice view on the snowy forest. Still the rooms have no any charm and there was an unpleasant smell coming of the shower. There is easy access to the ski area, the hotel is just 5' walk from the pistes. Breakfast is ok, not great. 
Extra facilities were the sauna, the broken jacuzzi and 3 old and broken sport machines. We used the sauna twice and it was nice. This experience was spoiled though when we were asked to pay for it while checking out. 7€/person/hour. Nobody told us before that it was an extra. The other problem is the ski domain itself. It has less than 10 pistes and still costs about 25-30€/day for the access. After two days, you find it really boring. There is nothing much too do around. Lot's of restaurants and hotels but no nice bars or pubs. So the verdict is, don't go to the Poiana Brasov for more than 3 nights. Avoid the New Year, all the restaurants putting the bill really high (150-250€/person). Don't go to hotel Alex, unless you have the price around 60-65€ per night, if not you risk to leave frustrated just like us.

Too expensive

Pensiunea Alex was very modest, law quality breakfast included in the price. The rooms weeen't clean spotless as stated in description. The bed was very uncomfortable,very soft pillows,very bad mattress,bathroom was very small and hasnt been cleaned by cleaners on daily basis. The towels were dirty,grey colour(not white as original)and broken. All towels. The fridge was making a loud sound continuously. The receptionists,cleaners,waitresses were having a Non customer service attitude(especially the blonde woman at kitchen -where was serving breakfast. I will not recommend it. On booking it was a price and I paid at the property a higher price
