Our experience here was very mediocre. We booked it because of the raving reviews, great website and seemingly endless list of activities available. We actually didn't even look at many other options, and as a result had our expectations too high and an okay stay in the end.

The stay was slightly disappointing but nothing shocking. The rooms were styled and cleaned as I would expect a hostel to be - slightly shabby, nothing fancy. Beds were comfy enough and we had an AC unit in our room so it was cool and relaxing at night. We did not see or find any of the rental equipment, and had no interactions with a host at all after our late night arrival. 

We had been looking forward to trying out some paddle boards or kayaks, and definitely to doing yoga - but did not get a chance to do any of that (didn't know where to rent equipment, never saw the host after arrival). We were also expecting daily breakfast which is raved about in the reviews and mentioned on the website, but as I stated we didn't see the host and didn't receive any info on breakfast. 

Those things were disappointing but overall it was an okay place to sleep at night for a decent price. The beach it is on is very quiet and really beautiful. We swam every morning and basically had the whole beach to ourselves. I would recommend this to relaxed travelers looking for a good deal or a cool beach, but would just warn not to have super high expectations and know what you are getting when you pay to stay at a hostel.

Place to Sleep with a Nice Beach

First off, Great Name, however based on the sheer coolness & kindness of Sara and her guests, the place should be renamed BEAUTIFUL Souls.
 
Traveling with teenagers, I was initially a little concerned with the 'hostel' moniker.  
No GS is not the traditional hostel, a dormitory style bunk house buried in the industrial part of town catering strictly to the backpacking community on budget.  While that community is obviously welcome, you do not get the feeling that anyone with the ability to smile and laugh would ever be unwelcome Grateful Souls.  Grateful Souls is more like visiting your childhood friends beach house, located on the most beautiful, uncrowded beach on the PR west coast, oh, and a couple more really close friends that you forgot you had, also crashing with you.  

Privacy was never a concern, sleeping quarters are strategically located far enough from common areas that the AM roosters, and night owls never seem to impede on each others sleeping patterns while partaking in their respective social gatherings.

Beautiful Location - Private beach, but centrally located within 25 minutes in either direction from some of the nicest public beaches in Aguadilla and Rincon, Think Local families out enjoying the gems PR has to offer, as opposed to the gated resorts with caged in tourists.

Genuinely great people, both Sara, and all of her guests are just so chill, you always feel as you are staying with family or friends.  Let's not forget the great greetings from Scarlet, Mommacita, and Punt,  Sara's welcoming committee.

People, & Location made it one of the most difficult goodbyes ever,  thankfully we had to depart before sunrise,  forgoing long tearful goodbyes with our newest bestest friends.

Beautiful Souls

This hostel is awesome!  Sara is an absolute sweetheart, she's great. This is by far the best hostel I've ever stayed at in Puerto Rico!  The house is gorgeous and right on the beach.  You can hear the waves breaking inside the house.  The hostel is within minutes of a ton of surf spots!  This is a great place to also get some local culture exposer, with restaurants and bars walking distance.  Sara also does events at the hostel such as pot luck dinners, yoga, and local food dinners (mofungo night).  I would strongly recommend this hostel to any solo travelers, families, and friends going on a trip.  Has a beautiful vibe and view of the beach/ island.

Best Hostel Ever!

My daughter, age 7 and I spent a glorious 5 days at Grateful Souls. We immediately felt at home, safe and welcomed. The home itself is magnificent and the beach is to die for. We couldn't have picked a more perfect place to spend our time on the West Coast of PR. Plenty of water toys, ping pong, crafts, beach combing, eating, and on and on. Sara is an amazing host and helped us plan adventures and outings that were perfect for us. Beware, you won't plan a long enough stay! We shed many tears when we left. Can't wait to go back.

Amazing hostel! Absolute paradise

I loved our host at this stay. We enjoyed the milieu of the property. Very tranquil, very beautiful. We were invited to use the water toys, but it was a peaceful season, no need to surf. We just loved walking the beach!
