The couple is wonderful. Typical Eastern Dutch charm. Through the website natuurhuisje.nl I was led to believe this would be a quiet out of the way cabin, and extremely peaceful. I am a solo traveller that came for some rest. 

The couple fixes you a nice breakfast. They mean well I am sure. And if you have a bunch if rowdy kids: this is your place to be.

Because the honest story here is: these are four small to very small makeshift accommodations, situated very close together on the back of the owner's yard. The couple live in the main house themselves.

Sure there are storks and goats an a nice view o.ver the meadows. But the advertisement never mentioned the extremely busy and noisy railroad track that runs right next to the property. Four trains an hour plus an international one and yes: they are very audible.

I was lucky to be the only tenant this weekend; I can't imagine what a rest seeker would have thought of this very narrowly spaced area with four "cottages" for children, at a meter or two from each other.

My cabin featured one tiny living/kitchen type of space, and one small bedroom. For 90 euro per night, in the off season, right next to a rail road track: I found it a bit steeply priced.

Friendliness doesn't always make up for definite issues

We had three nights at Erve Dikkeboer over the Easter weekend with two young children (6 and 5) while visiting family in Gorrsel and Deventer, both about 20 minutes away by car.  It is owned and run by Gerrit and Else ter Keurs, who are friendly and welcoming.

We stayed in de Bedstee, an apartment with plenty of room for the four of us.  The kids slept in the 'bedstee', a high level bed in an alcove.  They loved it!  It wouldn't be suitable for very young children, but if they are of an age where they can understand that they must not climb down the ladder without an adult, or are capable of doing so carefully, it will be fine.  

We slept in the bedroom with nice views of the fields through the window.  As well as a bathroom with shower (no bath), the main room contained a small sofa, two chairs and tv, plus a kitchette (fridge, coffee filter machine, kettle, hob, sink), table and four chairs.

Breakfast is delivered to the apartment at 9am and was very tasty.  A mixture of breads (made by Gerrit), local jam and eggs (sometimes boiled, sometimes scrambled and sometimes made into pancakes), plus cheese and meats and orange juice.  There was plenty of it and it was delicious.  Coffee and tea supplies are available in the cupboard.

Overall it was a lovely countryside B&B.  Everything was very clean and warm - it was also possible to adjust the thermostat, if necessary.  I speak barely any Dutch, though my partner is Dutch, so it's easy for me, but don't worry if you don't speak it as both Gerrit and Erve speak good English, as do most people in Holland.  We'll be going back.
