I had the most amazing time at this Riad. Staff were very helpful & kind.  Also it was good that they offered the breakfast up to 11am. As I like a rest in the mornings.  After searching a long time for a Riad at the right price,  with all the amazing architecture,  beautiful pillars   for great pictures. Like a movie scene was right up my street  . & so close to the famous square. Only 2 small streets back  .  Easy to find . Very safe . I am a lady solo traveler & found the people lovely ,  The place to be if you wanna stay in the heart of the medina.  No taxis needed short walk away & offer 24 hour service.  I highly recommend this riad xx  & their airport  transfares .  They also offer trips from reception handy rather than running about looking  your accommodation will keep you right .

The location is really good if you want to be close to Jamaa El Fna. Really good value. Lovely room and excellent freshly made breakfast on the terrace. All staff helpful. Highly recommend for budget travellers. It's a taste of true Moroccan hospitality. But if you want a big expensive impersonal hotel with good air con, go elsewhere.

Great value, lovely staff, great location!

Great value for money with friendly staff. Youssef was very helpful. The location was fantastic. Breakfast was excellent. The room whilst basic was clean and the ability to walk to all of the Medina main square and souks as well as all of the sights was really good.

Aside from the central main court that is actually nice, the rest of the riad is sooo disappointing: the rooms and their cleanliness, the breakfast...and most importantly the staff at the reception....The person attempted to screw us over over the price even if there was a commitment on the online price. Keep in mind they only accept cash (in dirhams or euros).

Overrated...worst staff ever

If your safety and dignity matters to you, please avoid this ryad! The room was not comfortable and tidy as it should be for a ryad of this rating, we found hair all over the place, and the mattress is quite old. The towels folded as if there were clean, but they were quite used up, with some hair inside as well.

The staff at the reception was rude and unprofessional. The guy (identified himself as Ali) asked for our marriage certificate before checking in my room. Myself as a French guy with an Arab name and my girlfriend being American, we were ready to comply with the 'custom/law' even if it is loosely applied and even if I was not notified by email about this requirement...My girlfriend was ok spending the night in my sister's room. But it was clear this was not enough, he was singling us out while other couples were let in without verification for such requirement. He tried to bully us because he knew we have limited lodging options on New Years' eve. He refused to put us in contact with the owner/manager, and was extremely threatening...leaving the reception and joining some thugs right outside the door. He proffered some racist slurs, stating he would rather have us leave and let other foreign guests take our room for triple the price. It took me to have a seasoned old neighbour intervene and to waive the police threat to put an end to this farce. I never felt so unsafe on a New Year eve.

Dirty rooms and threatening staff

We found hair in the bathroom, and also in the folded towels. Air conditioning did not work. There was a strong smell in the bathroom. The staff at the reception was rude and threatening. They only accept cash, and the guy even tried to take advantage by taking more money than we agreed to pay online.

To avoid like the plague

We stayed at Ryad Hamza late October and we enjoyed very much the friendliness of the staff. They were helpful with all our questions and I loved their casual & relaxed personalities, still they handled everything professionally. Adil and Badr were very nice hosts, a special thanks for them!

Our room was small, not luxuriously decorated but comfortable. The only issue was being located just next to lobby/reception, so there was some regular noise, mostly during the day. There was no A/C in the room, we were fine but I wonder how unconfortable it would feel if we were visiting in the middle of summer.

The lobby was beautiful and cozy, with a small fountain and a sitting area. Breakfast was served in the terrace and it was delicious, with pancakes, fresh squeezed orange juice, bread, jam, butter, cheese and coffee.

We did a 2 days/1 night tour to Zagora desert arranged with the riad, we were picked up at the riad and brough to the van. We thought the guide was poor and did not give lots of information, however it was a wonderful experience to sleep in the desert and watch the sunset/sunrise. I wish I could have spend more time there.

Friendly & casual place

Ryad itself is a lovely place to stay with friendly and helpful staff, but I don't recommend to book a tour there (we joined a 3-days trip to Merzouga). This is more review io tour, but the hotel is big part of all the story.

What they promised to us:
- Sunset on the desert and 1.5-hour camel ride
- Sunrise and camel ride in the morning
- One night in the hotel on the way there
- One night in a tent with bathroom
- Two tourist places to visit (Air Ben Haddou and Les Gordes)
- English speaking driver
- all package cost 780 per person

What was a problem:
- all the stops had one purpose of pushing us to spend money on overpriced staff or food to earn more in commotion for the agency who organized a trip
- we spend 2 hours walking with probably fake "guide" on street to prepare us for visiting  a carpet shop.
- We come to the desert 10 minutes before sunset (because of the previous point). So most of the way we were riding camels in dark.
- We had to wake up at 5 am in the desert to be back in the car at 8 am. Sunrise was at 8:36 am. So we were supposed to be in desert in total dark.

Our trip in detail:
The first day we made a couple of stops, the driver was usually sitting in the car or smoking outside, not telling us anything.
The first serious stop was in Air Ben Haddou. We met first "guide" who did a tour for us, it was pretty good except asking for 25 MAD for entrance fee (probably it was a fake fee) and was pushing us to buy a desert passport. Desert passport was a typical scarf we should use in the desert because of heat, sun, and wind. The usual price close to the desert was less than 50 MAD they were offered us one for 100 MAD. Then we stopped for lunch, which cost around 120 MAD per person includes drink. In the evening we stayed in a pretty nice hotel. So the first day wasn't so bad, and we were in half of the journey to the desert.

The next day we made a stop in Tinghir. This stop wasn't in the program. After a couple of minutes of waiting for a new "guide" come he was funny, made jokes and walk with us around a city. After around of hour, we end up in a carpet shop where we spend around an hour, and we were offered tea and possibility to pay for carpets even by card. There I first time figure out that all the trip is just a way how to use us as a way how to earn more money by getting commotion. So I ask our new "guide" to leave a place because we were already running out of time to be on the desert on time.

I ask our driver what was it. He replied that he is the only driver and that it is not his business. He only has a list of places where to stop.

Then all the people went to the next overpriced lunch. We went around and found a place with food for 25% of the price compare to the recommended one. 

Then we stopped for approximately 10 minutes in Les Gordes.

After we finally went to the desert. Our group was split my wife and me with the other couple went by 4-week drive car to some ryad. There we have to leave most of our staff and keep only what was needed for a night, and after a couple of minutes, which could be saved in case we knew before, went to meet camels. 

There were a new "guide" and two more tourists waiting for us. It was around 10 minutes before the sunset.  Then we had a chance to see The sunset with children playing football in front of us because we didn't reach dunes on time. 

After 1.5 hour riding of camels mostly in dark, we got to a camp. There we got dinner and information that we are starting the next day at 5:30 (sunrise was 7:36). So we ask if there is a way we can see a desert and leave later. There was no way to start later, but we were promised to wait for sunrise in the end. It didn't make sense, but there was nothing to do about it.

So the next morning, after wake up at 5:15, am we started our journey back. After 1 hour in the dark, we got to a place where we were waiiting 50 minutes for a sunrise and finished our journey.

Back in ryad, we got breakfast and then we decided to stay in Merzouga and stop this comedy.

Don't book a tour there

We stayed for two nights in September. Very friendly and helpful staff that went out of their way to make our experience comfortable and our stay in Marrakech enjoyable. Lovely Riad with spacious rooms basic but good facilities. 5-minute walk from main square and markets. A good breakfast served on the roof terrace.Very affordable and would most definitely stay again. Some building works were going on in the next-door house that made some noise in the mornings but not to much.

The place to stay in Marrakech

Beautifully decorated, & so peaceful, you wouldn't think you were only a 5 minute walk away from the magical mayhem of Jemaa el-Fna! Our room was basic. comfortable & cool. Adil was really friendly & helpful. The decor is spectacular, so traditionally Moroccan. Chilling out on the rooftop terrace watching the sunset was one of many highlights from our 5 night stay. The back alleys leading to the Riad were a little daunting on arrival but you very quickly realise it’s a straight forward run to an opening on Jemaa el-Fna, an easy route to remember. Booking a taxi throughout Riad for your arrival is a must, you would never find it by yourself. Adil kindly met us at our taxi & walked us to the Riad helping with our cases. Definitely recommend! Wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Marrakesh, you’re at the absolute beating heart of it in Riad Hamza.
