I’ve been visiting Tio Rafa’s house upon suggestion of a Mexican friend of us. We rented out the big private room for really cheap and we had a great time at the hostel! Weather was really warm in Merida during our stay :) we found some fresh air in the little cosy inner garden where there is also a round swimming pool. The breakfasts freshly cooked by Rafa were also really good plus for a total Mexican home experience! We loved this place!

Super nice time with Tio Rafa!


This hostel is close to the main square, and the Ado CAME bus station. The dorm we were in housed 3 bunk beds and some lockers and cost $155MXN. This cost included breakfast, which were two delicious pancakes. The host was fantastic, offering free maps and suggestions. There was a festival happening the days we were in town and he was sure to tell us about it. There is a little garden area, perfect for sitting and enjoying breakfast. 
Checkout is at 11am and he will not hold your bags, so plan accordingly. 


Centrally located and comfortable 

the hostel is very cute, lots of paintings evrywhere. the garden is as well really nice to eat breakfast and the rooftop to chill and enjoy sunsets. 

negative points : cold and dirty showers, toilets' flush doestn't work everytime

This is Tio's house.  He naps on the couch and watches tv.  He makes breakfast in the morning. 
The house is cluttered and hot.  The back garden is nice.  Tio was little too flirty with me and touched me too much. No big deal but I couldn't wait to leave.  He was very helpful with questions about the city and buses.

Felt uncomfortable here

I agree with the few reviews that dont understand what is so great about this hostel. First its more like a homestay. The owner wasnt especially friendly. The room was warm and there was no Window and it came out at the living room. Which meant that everytime we left the room we had to see someone lying on the couch. I guess in its glory days it could or would have been a Nice place. But now it looks run down. As the title says, we left a day early
