I was staying there few days and found the place really relaxing, quiet and pretty adorable. The building and the rooms are very nice and clean and there's everything one may need no matter if staying for two days or two weeks.

Villa Ottimar is run by super nice and helpful staff. Rooms are spacious and stylish (though without bathrooms) and offer nice views. The area is quite calm and charming. Breakfast is ok. The pool is very well maintained. There are few buses to Valletta, running every 10-15minutes, bus to Paceville/St Julian - the last one at 22.30. The stroll to the nearest beach takes 15-20 minutes
Very good value for money

We arrived after check-in hours, but the staff was happy to welcome us nevertheless. The taxi had some difficulty finding the place, but the staff helped us on the phone. Upon arrival, we were given some important information and a short tour of the facilities and shown to our room. The room we stayed in was spacious and comfortable. We had no AC, but with the windows open it was not needed and gave the room a nice atmosphere. The location was okay; there is a grocery store about 500 metres away and the walk to St. Julian's takes for about 15-20 minutes. Buses 120 and 22 stop almost in front of the Villa which was nice. There was a shelf for every room in the fridge to keep food and the kitchen was just fine for cooking. The bathrooms were kind of untidy; one had a toilet that didn't flush well and the other was covered in hairs. The water pressure was bad but we weren't expecting it to be any better. The pool area was somewhat messy, but not too bad. The wifi connection was good all over the property. All in all, we enjoyed our stay.

Staff greeted us when we arrived in the evening, and they introduced us to the Villa and told all the necessary information, e.g. wi-fi code and rules. Rooms were quite spacious and we had our own shelf in the refrigerator. Bathrooms weren't clean or pleasant to use and the pool area was quite messy, too. Beds and pillows weren't comfortable, either. The location of the Villa was good, near St. Julian's and grocery stores. The staff was really helpful and nice. If you opened the windows in the room, there was no need for AC. All in all, a good place to stay.

Beautiful medittterenian villa

A wonderful villa, nice service and good location.

Wonderful hostel - Big rooms and good service

Beautiful building, bonus of a swimming pool and lovely local area. Downside was noisy guests after 11pm and before 8am, banging doors, etc. It is a marble and wood building, so every noise echos. Rooms are basic and some could do with a bit of attention - lots of things not working properly or at all, dreadful pillows, kitchen often untidy and unclean, but some guests were very nice and owners were okay (apart from taking money from my account while still there and not saying to me that they were going to do that - still waiting on response as to what the money was exactly for as it seems excessive). It is very laid back and the owners are too, so don't expect a lot of organisation skills on a regular basis. They are not always around either and no one around during the night to deal with any issues (not that we were aware of). Helpful to a point, but not pro-active in their guests comfort. Would be a good idea to have a list of information and contact numbers in each room, and exactly what charges you would be charged for and when they would be asked for. Buses nearby and in the town of San Gwann itself - good value ticket available at the little lottery shop, but buses can be unpredictable and a little busy. Okay for St Julian's and Valletta, but not as regular for anywhere else - head into Sliema or Valletta for a bigger range of bus routes. The town itself is lovely, people helpful and friendly. Wifi was good, but for some reason the hostel computer wouldn't let me open my email, so that was frustrating. We had to use the airconditioning as we had to keep windows closed at night due to myself getting badly bitten by mosquitos - we also had some bugs in the room too, that we squashed. So, uncomfortable nights jue to heat, mosquitoes and noisy guests. The poolside was a bit untidy, but the pool itself, although cold, was clean and we did enjoy a couple of days at the poolside. More thorough cleaning is required as it is a big building and if you are going to have rules about noise, tidying up, etc, you have to be seen to be pro-active and enforce them or what is the point of having them?! I would recommend San Gwann as a local, quiet base, but not Villa Ottimar to stay.
