Our tuktuk from the bus station dropped us off on the Luang Prabang side of the “Old Bridge”and we walked across.  The centre part of the bridge is for bikes and there is a walkway on either “outside”part.  Coming from LP, the right hand side is better maintained, on the left hand side there are several “planks”that are no longer connected…

Bellvue is easy to find, just after the bridge is a small lane, and there’s a Bellvue Guesthouse sign on the left hand side, the guesthouse is through the white gate that faces you after about 25 meters.  Don’t take the condition of the gate as an indication of the bungalows.

We took room 204 – there are bungalows in the garden and there’s also a building at the front of the site with four rooms (two up and two down), ours was one of the top units.  Clad in wood, spacious, with AC and a fan and a private bathroom.  There was a seating area on the deck also with a line for hanging clothes to dry.
We paid US$56 for three nights through Agoda.  When we arrived we were quoted the same price as online.  The bathroom was great, a good decent pressure hot electric shower in it’s own area with a drain in the same area.  Western toilet and sink unit.  Towel rail in a sensible place.
The bed was large and comfortable, small table unit and stool and a separate table for bags.  Three large hooks on the wall for hanging things.  The AC was pretty useless, if it managed to keep most of the heat out of the room that was the best it could do.  The fan was necessary most of the time as well.
Breakfast was provided – a choice of drinks and egg (omlett, scrambled egg or fried eggs) and baguette and jam and butter plus fruit. Bread was served warm and the eggs were done well.  
Wifi was available in the breakfast area and in room 204 and was consistent but not fast.
Staff are friendly, the cute ball of fur puppy is a bonus.  The only issue was slightly iffy air con.

Quiet, pleasant, friendly

We stayed in the bungalows for 3 nights after finding them on booking.com, the bungalow itself was really nice large and spacious.

The staff where very nice although limited english but cant really complain about that.

The issue is it is so far out of the way, no tuk tuks come that way either so you will need to walk part of the way to get a tuk tuk.

Oh and if there is a couple of guests staying in the bungalows as well it can get loud i.. doors slamming etc.

Good room, just poor location

Bellevue Bungalows is located on the other side of the Nam Kha river so you need to reach it by crossing the old bridge.  This bridge is just for motorbikes, bicycles and pedestrians so anyone arriving by tuk tuk will have to go the long way round.  Given it's somewhat out of the way location, there is a good 10 minute walk into town, the bungalows would really benefit from having bicycles to hire for guests.  The bungalows are basic and could benefit with some updating.  The mosquito net was completely unusable.  The bathrooms are dark with a bath and an overhead shower with a good supply of hot water.  The wifi signal was poor and very slow from inside our bungalow, but better outside.  Breakfast was either baguette and scrambled eggs, or a baguette and jam.  The staff were not very friendly and seemingly uninterested in guests when we stayed there.  In summary, this place has potential, but there are much better guesthouses closer to town, and I would only stay here again if I had no closer options.

Could do better

These 'bungalows' offer comfortable but basic rooms. Hot water was sometimes elusive but the wet room style bathroom was huge with a choice of showers. The beds were comfy and warm and very welcoming at the end of a long day. 

Outside our room were comfortable chairs to drink tea and read. Breakfasts are large and with different options to suit the needs of different travellers. There is free wifi, although this is sometimes hard to find.

The staff were very friendly and able to help with tuk tuks to the airport and provide information on tourist attractions in the area.

Note: this property is located on the otherside of the Old Bridge and most tuk tuks will only pick you up or drop you off at the town side, meaning you have to walk across the bridge to reach the property. The bridge is not suitable for those who need assistance when walking, or for those with a fear of heights!

Great value for money and very friendly staff

We were really lucky that the tuk tuk from Port Luang Prabang dropped us off in the centre of town, just by the Tourist Office, and there was an English-speaking passerby available to give directions to the tuk tuk driver to take us to the Bungalows.   Our own efforts to explain where we wanted to go, with booking form in hand, were totally unsuccessful.   The tuk tuk had to travel quite a long way because the drivers will not go across the old bridge which connects the side of the river where the Bungalows are situated with the centre of the township.   When we arrived, we were received by a young man with very limited English in an open reception area which also serves as the breakfast room - incidentally the 'kitchen' is an outdoor area with just a bit of basic roofing to give some protection to the elements, but no protection at all from animals or insects.   A young woman was sitting in the Reception area watching TV - not a guest since she seemed to be a permanent fixture for the length of our stay.   We couldn't get any information from our 'host' about attractions in the area, or possible tours.   However, at our request, he handed us a rough map showing the general layout of Luang Prabang.   The gardens were not well-maintained.   The bungalow certainly had plenty of space, with the barest minimum of furnishings, including a holey mosquito net for each bed.   The caulking of the wooden floors and walls had not been maintained and the gaps provided an open door for mosquitoes.   The bathroom was dirty and uninviting.   There was a table and a couple of chairs on the verandah, and we had no difficulty accessing wifi.   We handed some laundry to the older lady, who seems to do the actual work of the operation.   It came back smelling strongly of laundry powder, and the whites had adopted a universal grey tone.   We tried to persuade ourselves that it was really only three nights, but in our travels the following morning we found an absolute haven right nextdoor, when we were looking for a restaurant, and booked in there straight away.   We negotiated a great rate and had a couple of nights in a wonderful place where we could quite happily have sat in the grounds, watching the fishermen on the river, the butterflies, the birds, and just enjoying the environment.   So we returned to the Bungalows, packed our bags and left.   The response from the host was non-existent - it is probably a common experience for him.   The Old Bridge can be a little intimidating, but it really is easy to negotiate.   Just don't think of Indiana Jones and crocodiles in the river!
