Tsuki no Shizuka

The rooms were exceptionally big, specially when considering how Japanese hotel rooms typically look like. In our case, we opted for a western style room, which was a funny mix of what one could expect of a Japanese room (different areas within the room) and a western style (understood by this, a regular bed). Upon arrival to the hotel, we were welcomed at reception without any trouble (important to mention, that there were no problems for checkin later than in the expected hours), and invited to use the onsen bath, which they opened half an hour more, specially for us. While we didn’t have enough time to check the room, we quickly wear our yukatas and went straight to the bath. Back in the room, we discovered that the only way to take a shower in the morning was by going to the onsen (no shower in our room), which was a bit of a surprise, but totally fine with us. The morning breakfast was one of my favorites ever; rice, two different soups, usually some egg rolls or omelette, fish, some preserved veggies, and a bar with yogurts, salads and more eggs. Overall, the facilities were exceptionally clean, although seemed a bit worn out, but nonetheless I would recommend it to anyone visiting Matsumoto and looking for a calm and relaxing stay. Finally, the hotel was also providing a free shuttle bus in the morning to the city center and the staff was also very welcoming and friendly, and would always try to help even when there would be some language barrier.
