Rooms are small by European standards but fine for 2/3 nights. Breakfast was different each day and was good, free parking. Great value for money but you need a car for sightseeing

Easy check in and out, stuff was very nice and kind. Clean room and Breakfast I was glad to pick this hotel. Next time if I have to stay in Gifu I probably use this hotel. If you using JR bullet train I would recommend this hotel.

Nice and clean.

My booking showd all of a sudden a smoker room. I contacted the hotel in Japanese, but they did not care nor answer. At check in they only had a smoker room for me which was unacceptable for me. They told me to charge for one night and I went somewhere else to stay. Now I am still charged the full amount although I called hotels.com. I feel cheated by the hotel and by hotels.com who promised to clarify this issue but never did. Will book at another portal and hotel next time. I meanwhile hate hotels.com for not being reachable and reacting.

No reaction from hotel. Careful when booking

Only stayed one evening in this hotel.  The room was clean and conformable but there was nothing outstanding about the hotel.  

The place is cheap and is between a 2.5 and three star hotel, which was probably why the tour stayed there.

There isn't anything in the direct vicinty to see or do if you are looking for a club or party scene.

Ok for an overnight stay.

I have stayed this hotel many times . Its very clean very well presented . Communication is a little difficult at times because there is only one receptionist that can speak english. Rooms are average size for japan but very well equipped. Tv cable and fridge with safe and even a japanese style kettle for hot water and even a rice cooker in one room i stayed in . Average price is around £35 or $50 at ¥6000 . This hotel is in the province of gifu but only 6-7 minutes on sinkanshen  to nagoya . Last train back from nagoya is 10:21 and its ¥1,200 each way .
The meitsu line is a little local train you can catch there and ticket machines can be changed to english .gifu is 30 minutes away by local train but you must change to express train at kasayama but its very straight forward . Here you will find many shops restaurants bads etc you would like to see in a busy city . O yes and there the gifu castle and cable car here . Short distance buy bus . Back to hashima . There are lots of restaurants in this area but they are a little obscure to find because they dont look like they do in western country they actually look like homes . If theres an orange light flashing outside it means its a business and its open . Walk under shinkashen station turn left walk past the san hotel keep it to your left hand side theres a food chain selling very good food and beer at around £8 for meal £3:50 for a beer .theres also one guy there can speak english and they also have there menu translated in english but its in small print so bring your glasses .

Last note is ask for a members card at reception of toyoko inn to gain an extra 15 % off your room it has a small fee to join but it still works out at 10% discount for weekend stay even more if stay longer . Hope helpfull friends . Just for information dont use toyoko inn at nagoya airport its terrible i shall right a review soon 

Toyoko inn is the equivalent of a premier in and a little better than a travel lodge at half the price . Also there is coin operated laundry in most hotels in japan

Nice place to stay

We stayed almost one week at this hotel.
Like every Toyoko Inn the room are clean, with all the comfort (fridge, aircon, boiler, TV).
Nearby you have a Seven eleven to buy some dinner, otherwise there is nothing around.
The hotel is really close to the station and this is very quick to go to Kyoto, Osaka and Nagoya, even Tokyo is 2 hours away.
The free breakfast is great.
The only problem is that sometimes there are group of tourists and they can be noisy and it is impossible to have breakfast as the same time. But if you take breakfast later this is no problem.
So if you have the JR Pass this is a good cheap option.

Cheap Toyoko Inn with good connection to Kyo, Osaka and Nagoya

It's a nice enough hotel, however if you or your companions don't speak/read Japanese you might be in a spot of trouble. There are signs everywhere and only very few of them have English on them. 
I give the room a good ranking for Japan, if I were in the US or Canada I would consider it small, but as far as I've experienced this is pretty standard, if not a little larger. 
As I'm finding with all Japanese hotels the beds are very firm, but not uncomfortable. The bedroom slippers are a little small for my average size westerner feet. 
There is a safe in the room and a decent sized mini fridge which is great to have as there are no restaurants around that I know of, although there is a 7 eleven close by. 
You drop your key off at the front desk every time you leave the hotel, which I find a little strange, and the key turns the electricity to the room on. Or more accurately the big plastic stick with the key gets jammed into the slot turning on the electricity.
the bathroom is standard Japanese hotel bathroom. This one has a drain in the floor so your bath can spill over with no ill effect. 

The hotel does a very wonderful free Japanese breakfast from 6:40 to 9:00 first come first serve. 

The hotel is very close to a Shinkansen, however it's still out in the middle of nowhere. Be very careful if you're planning to use this hotel as a home base for day trips as the last train, as of this writing, leaves Nagoya at 8:10pm. If you miss that train there's no way back.
