Absolutely loved our stay at Wind Inn, it was tidy and quiet and provided everything we needed after a fun day on the slopes. Hayato and family provided a warm and friendly experience and excellent value for money. Although as mentioned in previous reviews there is no Onsen on site, it was an absolute privilege to be able to use the Onsen facilities up at Stelle Belle and the short walk up the road was not a problem. The on site restaurant was absolutely delicious, probably the best sushi I’ve had and I am usually not a big fan of nigiri but the tuna and salmon was so fresh. Hayato also served us some special Okinawan Sake which was a real treat and Wind Inn guests get a 20% discount so dinner was a bargain. There is a small supply of free bread, muesli, tea and coffee for a quick and easy breakfast, but best to stock up on some supplies at the local convenience store if you want a solid breakfast for a day on the slopes. I would highly recommend staying at Wind Inn if you want value for money and a friendly atmosphere.

Great value for money, delicious sushi!

We have visited Hakuba 4 years in a row now and this is the second time we've stayed at The Wind Inn. The accommodation is basic but it is perfect for a snowboarding/ski trip where you spend all day on the slopes and simply use the room to sleep in. The rooms are unbelievably clean and warm and cosy with comfy beds. Having a kitchen to cook our own breakfast prior to a big day on the slopes was great, although, The Wind Inn provides cereal and a box of bread each day that guests are able to eat for free! Even tho there is no onsen on site, guests are able to use the onsen at Hotel Stelle Belle just up the road.

Sushi Katsu is attached to The Wind Inn and is the only place we eat dinner at! The sushi and sashimi is some of the best we have had in Japan. Amongst other items on the menu, the ambience inside Sushi Katsu and extremely friendly staff make it hard to go anywhere else to eat! The owners of The Wind Inn also run the restaurant so are extremely warm and welcoming, as if they are welcoming you into their own home. We won't stay anywhere else while in Hakuba from now on and will be back again for sure!

Amazing Sushi!

We visited here, Sushi Katsu, for the food, staff were friendly, helpful and lovely to the kids. The sushi was decent, the tea was nice but the surroundings were quaint and the open fire was lovely.

A good go to for all the family. They were also really mindful of allergies and checked for me which was gluten free as well.

The people make this place 

Guest House Wind Inn is a decent place to stay if you're looking for a low budget hotel.  My boyfriend and I visited in December 2015 and we were in a room with two twin beds and an ensuite bathroom.  The bathroom is TINY.  Even the shower is smaller than a typical shower.
The owner gentlemen didn't seem to know much about the ski resorts or bus times, he kept telling us to look at the bus time table posted on the bulletin which looks very confusing (by the end of our Japan trip, we were pros at reading these bus tables).  And one day he told us the wrong bus time and we ended up missing the bus so we called them and they sent a shuttle to drive us to one of the ski resorts directly.
They are walking distance from a smaller resort which we tried the first day that we were there.
Wish there was an onsen at the property, but you have to walk a couple blocks (uphill) to another property owned by the guy's parents so use the onsen.  As you can imagine, in the winter, having to walk back with wet hair is not enjoyable.  
Also, if you want to reserve the private barrel onsen, be sure to tell them way in advanced, we tried to reserve it on our last day but they said that they're all making dinner so there was no one to prepare the barrel onsen.
Dining at the property is okay, nothing great.  They give you a map when you arrive that shows other restaurants in the area, but I'm not sure if it's because we tried to go out to eat on a weekday at the beginning of the ski season or if it was too late (8:30pm) but a lot of the restaurants were closed.  We managed to find a tiny little place and sat down...we realized a little too late that the smoke smell that filled the room was way overpowering, pretty much everyone was smoking cigs and it was disgusting.  We inhaled our food and ran.

Not sure if we'd stay here again, I think I'd want something a little more modern with an onsen.

Decent

Well lets just say the sushi isnt bad, but its definitely not great! Visited sushi/katsu and was really dissapointed! First of all the menu is boring! 

We tried all of the Chefs recommendations.

1) edamame - clearly came from a frozen packet and was cooked in a microwave!! Some were hot some were cold and some were frozen!!!

2) squid - massive chunks you could not fit in your mouth! Was overcooked and hard to stomach!

3) clams - were pretty good!!

4) Chefs sushi special - for about $50 you get 9 pieces of bland sushi with too much wasabi on the roll! 

Service was really good! Staff were all friendly but eating experience poor!!
