We stayed in the i Conversi or monk's dormitory. Soooooo much space. One of the coolest places we've ever stayed within the walls of this 12th century restored abbey. Full bathroom and seperate bedroom with views in all four directions. So quiet and beautiful. Had fun exploring the abbey and the grounds and were always greeted and accompanied by the abbey's dogs and cats. There's some serious wooden stairs leading up to the room but we were helped with our baggage and that helped. Breakfast was great, the staff all really friendly and helpful (they even let us do some much needed laundry).  It is a bit remote so one night we bought groceries in town and had a fun dinner in the gigantic sitting room.  Loved it and would love to have a big event there.

Wow!!

This breathtaking taking isolated castle is the most memorable experience anyone can have. The host is very nice and helpful.

My husband and I stayed in the tower. One can’t describe this place. The fact that you are able to not only see but live in a piece of history for a few days, is so extraordinary! Yes there are a lot of stairs and you do need to walk carefully in some areas. But that does not take away from from this incredible place. You have what you need. The water here is so pure and taste great! Comes from their own source. WiFi is available. Kitchen has a microwave, stove, fridge, Nespresso machine and other necessary items. There isn’t a TV which is nice. 

You can roam the grounds and the rest of the castle. Which is so much fun! This entire place is an attraction. I’m so on love with this place!!!

Breakfast is delicious and so well done. Unfortunately the chef had a personal matter so we were not able to enjoy dinner in-house. (Next time) 

All in all, we had such a relaxing and enjoyable time. I highly recommend this place!!!!!!

A dream....unlike anything! 

We decided to break our trip between the Amalfi Coast and Tuscany with a stop over at the Abbazia San Giusto. The weather was fairly overcast and rainy but the first sight of the Abbey as you come down the drive way was amazing.

Although you can see where the reconstruction has taken place, it is obvious from the outset that this is a spectacularly old building (around a 100 years old) and we were quite excited to get there.

We were met by Ippolita who guided us around to where we were going to stay - the old bell tower! This is fairly much a self contained flat with a kitchenette / dining area and two bedrooms on separate floors and from there you can get up to the top of the bell tower which gives you a spectacular view over the surrounding countryside. Unfortunately, with the weather, we could not spend the time we wanted to up top, but it was well worth the climb to see the view.

The bell tower has a small seating area on the ground floor where we chose to leave our suitcases (one night only). To get up to the main area you climb a set of extremely narrow and steep stone steps (the original ones) - make sure you have the lights on as it is quite dark - before you arrive in the dining / kitchenette area. This is well set out with lovely wood furniture and the kitchenette can easily cater a meal. Instead of eating at one of the local restaurants we took the opportunity to make a home cooked pasta which was easily catered through the Co-op in Tuscania. From here you climb up further steps to the bedrooms which are spacious and warm (the whole unit is warmed by heaters which was very pleasant to come into.)

We explored around the abbey for a while which is amazing. You can get into the crypt where you can see the use of older columns (probably Roman or Etruscan), the church itself and a wander around the cloisters. The church has glass protected holes in the floor where you can see the casts of the bells - I found this intriguing and an unusual way for the monks / builders to have cast their bells. It does appear that these places were then used for burials as you can see bones around the cast moulds. 

The restoration work has been done amazingly well and blends in with the original walls.

You have breakfast served to you in the original refectory which Ippolita informed us was easily located when excavated by the stone table supports and benches around the walls. The breakfast is excellent with a good selection of bread, fruit, cakes, tea / coffee, meat and eggs. Ippolita chatted to us over breakfast which was great with here knowledge of the area and history.

For exercise the walk into Tuscania is very pleasant and along the way you can see farmers milking sheep for cheeses and you pass two Etruscan burial areas.

Overall, I wish we had more time here than the one night but I would highly recommend this as a stay.

What an experience!

Stayed here on our trip to Italy- 4 of us total, two couples.
We stayed in the tower, and my brother and his wife stayed in the monks dormitory.  Both rooms are equally amazing; either one will make an amazing stay.

The property is amazing!  It is fully restored to its 12th Century roots with modern conveniences added in.  We felt comfortable and at home in this amazing property.

The owners were fantastic, made us feel welcome during our stay!  The complimentary breakfast was outstanding, as well as the optional four course dinner that we had on our final night there (40 euros each person).

I can't recommend this amazing place enough for a nice break from the big cities in Italy.  Include it in your trip; you will not be disappointed.

Unbelievable stay!  Must Recommend!

Myself and 3 friends stayed in the Abbey Tower. I will say that there are a lot of steps and many are narrow, so you have to be physically capable to stay in the tower. BUT it is an amazingly wonderful experience! Ippolita and Simone were both wonderful to deal with and welcoming. The grounds are phenomenal and relaxing. To be on a property and in buildings with such rich history and have no one else around was surreal and fantastic! 
We had a dinner made for us, which was served in the cloister, and there isn't one thing I would have changed about it! The breakfast served in the morning was perfect. 
Every aspect of our stay from all the staff to the property to the food was perfect in every way. The only thing I would have changed (and will do in the future) is to stay more than 1 night! 
This was really one of the BIG highlights of my trip to Italy!

Absolutely amazing!

The location is not Tuscany and the Abbey is not just an agroturismo, It is in Tuscania and it is a hidden jewel that you can not miss.

The buildings are like a phoenix that has arisen from the ashes.  Walking throughout the halls and rooms brings up images of life as it was 1000 years ago. The restoration work was fantastic. 

Ippolita and Simone are running a first class operation in every respect. The breakfast was better than you will find in a five star hotel in Rome.

If you have time try to take a tour of the cheese making process with Francesco.

Do not miss this place, you will be sorry if you do

Unbelievable

Our expectations were exceeded in all respects by this special place. The owners are friendly and generous, (discounting our room rate twice without a request), the situation is idyllic, in the middle of a rural valley and the historic buildings are most impressive. To get to live in and have full access to such a place is a privilege and a great experience. We stayed in the belfry, which has two double bedrooms, a kitchen and roof terrace, with great views (including overlooking the monastery cloisters, gardens and valley below).
We arranged to take dinner in the cloister which was a n amazing experience, with our 5-course meal customized to our dietary preferences and personally sourced and prepared by a great culinary couple called Mark and Ginger, who are not only lovely people but also a great culinary team, with a passion for regionally sourced and freshly prepared food - it was a delight, and at 35 euros a head including wine, we were SO glad we'd booked for both nights!
The icing on the cake was the breakfast, which was so generous as to be bewildering! Served in our private courtyard below the belfry it was so lovely to enjoy the surrounding countryside over such a delicious spread!
We definitely hope to return, but imagine that it will become much more popular in the near future, so book early to avoid disappointment!
