Just three months after our last visit we decided to return to this lovely little b and b. Helena remembered us and offered us the same room we had the last time. As usual it's a great location for using the trains and again every night we sat on the roof terrace watching the world go by. 

Stayed here for three nights this week. Simple accommodation just around the corner from the station so was an excellent choice for those wanting to do day trips from Lucca. Friendly staff and the bonus of a sun terrace after a busy day sightseeing . Definitely be back to this one !

Helena is super nice. Room is very clean and dogs are allowed.

Has a nice terrace to sit and relax on and is directly at the city wall.

It's really the perfect place to stay if you're on a budget and/or have a dog.

Great Choice !

Perfect B&B, great for dogs

Contacted me before arriving, had a beer with Jan Luca and Elaina on arrival, parking was metered. Room with bathroom en suite, but definitely rudimentary amenities, and pretty loud saniflo system in use. No AC, but this was in late may, opened windows and this was OK. Fan was not that effective. Great service and very nice people, great location. Nice courtyard where breakfast served. Below is a pub and restaurant. Drink the water from the water dispenser outside on the street, people line up to fill fizzy and still water. Do not drink the tap water (IMHO). Lucca city within the walls only walking distance. Nice people who run this makes up for the "no frills" part.

Stayed here for 4 nights, using Lucca as a base to explore Tuscany by train. The station is barely a two minute walk (right around the corner) which was extremely convenient. It is also right across the wall of the city, so very close to anything inside.

The room itself was ok. Big enough with a huge bed. The bathroom was just outside of our room and was shared although we never saw anyone else there and never had to wait. Our bed was made up each day but our towels were never changed during our stay. 

Italian breakfast was available each morning prepared by a friendly lady, which was helpful for starting off our day. Wifi was good for most of our stay except for one night when it didn't work. 

When we arrived, the check in process was a bit confusing. We were offered water/coffee in the kitchen and told to sit down. But then we weren't sure what was going on. I had to ask if they wanted our passports. Most b&b's we stayed at in Italy were more helpful in offering up orientation and information, even though these were also all budget and no-frills accommodations. We had to ask what time breakfast was at, what the wifi was, and if there were any restaurant recommendations -- whereas this is usually offered up freely with enthusiasm. 

To pay they do accept credit but only the owner can do it. If you pay on the morning you leave its cash with the woman that stays there. If you want to pay by credit I recommend  asking to pay at check in to avoid any hassles. We got an email from the owner half-way through our stay saying that he was going out of town and if we want to pay credit he will come in the morning. However it was a bit chaotic and last minute for us as we needed to catch an early train to make our day trip plans on time, and that was the night the wifi stopped working so we couldn't sort out our train and communicate properly by email until the next morning at the last minute. It worked out in the end and we JUST made our train, but it was stressful to be told last minute that this was the only time to pay with credit. The process for paying should have been communicated at check in. 

Overall, the location is good, the room is fine, but my experience was underwhelmingly average lacking the usual charm and service we've come to appreciate from many other B&B's in Italy.
