The rooms are clean but small. The baths would never suffice a larger-framed person. The food was good, especially breakfast. The ambiance is pleasant and felt typical of Ireland; a real plus. After flying all day and being quite tired, I found the ongoing music and noise from below to be a bit much up to about 2:00 a.m. Then, at about 2:20, when I'd just gotten to sleep, the fire alarm went off. A few of us came out of our rooms only to find that no one from the inn was actually on the premises. The door to the restaurant was locked but the door to the alley was unlocked, although initially stuck. Eventually someone came running up the alley and said that he'd only left for a short time to get some food. The next morning, none of the staff seemed to know what caused the alarm to go off. 

Nice, But Prepare For Not Much Rest

Although as a lot of the reviews state sbout the size if the room we found it to be comfortable and warm the staff were friendly the breakfast was good and the clientele in the bar were very welcoming 

Honest review 

We stayed 2 nights. We found some of the staff unwelcoming and abrasive when we arrived. The room was very small, although it was clean and quite newly decorated. The bed was uncomfortable. The shower room was tiny and using the toilet was difficult (and we are not especially large), The room was noisy until the bar closed after midnight again noise from the traffic over night and in the morning. The breakfast on the first morning was good. We asked for an early breakfast on our last morning (which we preordered the day before). We had to knock on the door to be let in just after 8am and the breakfast was disappointing on the second morning (bacon and sausage under done, beans and eggs cold). We will never return here.

Never Again…

I wrote a pretty scathing review yesterday of our experience at this B&B. We had driven hours to get here and the place was packed with college students for trivia night. You couldn’t sit down and order food because the kids were  drinking (not eating )and no tables were available.  Our mini room 
 above the bar was extremely noisy The entrance to the hotel was in an alley . Broken glass was at the front entrance  that wasn’t swept up all night  Their was no parking  available as the kids had taken them all We had originally booked three nights, but cancelled after the first night . We were wakened early with the sounds of garbage  trucks  and beer trucks .  I took down my earlier review because the staff was accommodating and credited us a refund of two of the nights. This place isn’t for everyone but I imagine a younger adult  might be able to deal with this . BTW the breakfast was good but no brown bread

I wouldn’t stay here again

The one upside to stay here was it had been deep cleaned so much so that the smell of bleach when you went into the room was over powering even with the windows open. Unfortunately you had to shut the windows though as you’re on a busy roadside with an outdoor pub entrance and pub tables below you. Secondly the room size- it was barely a single bed size room and a double bed was squeezed in. So suitcases sat on the floor I front of the door. You could only get into bed on one side as the other was up against a windowed wall.  Thirdly the ensuite was (and I’m deadly serious) a converted wardrobe. No one other than a child could sit on the loo straight on- you had to sit side ways as the sink blocked your knees and as it was so narrow you had to have your left arm on the sink whilst you sat there. You would not shut the door in fear of claustrophobia assuming your legs were even short enough to be able too whilst sitting side saddle so to speak. Don’t plan for an early night either because the room is directly over the bar and the noise especially on quiz night with microphones means you won’t hear the TV on the wall 6ft away over the noise from downstairs. Instead the upside is that you can join in quiz night whilst in bed!! Lastly breakfast- if you like big cheap (the food here is about size not quality) fried food great- if you fancy a cereal or fruit this is not the right place for you.

Room was spotless , beds were comfortable , there was tea and coffee available in the room . 
 Accommodation  was opposite the hospital which was perfect for our hospital appointment .
En-suite shower room was very small .
Noise from bar stopped at 11.30 .

Cosy room

Myself and my mother travelled to Galway from donegal to attend the university hospital. The Sliding Rock is in an ideal location for this! Great wee bar downstairs with a lively buzzing atmosphere and staff were so lovely and accommodating. We had dinner in the bar and were very impressed. Menu had a fab selection and the breakfast was the same. We both had the mini breakfast and neither of us could finish what was on our plate we were that stuffed! The room was clean and bright and had almost everything you’d need. The only reason i knocked a point off is that they were quite small and you could hear some noise from downstairs although once we were in the room for a small while I have to admit I stopped noticing the noise and slept really really well! I’m not sure if it would be the same though if staying more than one night or at the weekend if you were needing early nights. In saying that I would 100% come back to stay in The Sliding Rock and would absolutely recommend it especially if your reason for travel is for the hospital!

The restaurant was very accommodating to everyone (gluten or dairy free I noticed) so welcome for everyone. Staff so polite and welcoming. Would defo come back.

Really enjoyed.

Drove by this place over 100 times and always wanted to check it out..  We were not disappointed whatsoever...! So, i went back the following weekend, just to make sure it wasn't a once off., it wasn't. 
Lovely menu, food is fresh and served hot and very promptly.. it is a busy pub but warm and cozy. Bar and floor staff know what they are at and they are friendly and again very prompt. They even have their own carpark at the back and rooms for holiday accommodation upstairs. 
Great selection of beers and a brilliant selection of sports on show on their many screens.. I want to try everything on the menu so I'll be back again.. I can't actually fault this place, great spot for good food, a beer and a match. Keep up the good work everyone. Love it.

Hidden gem in Galway city

Stayed  in  the  sliding  Rock  and  it  is  a  lovely  place  to  stay. Bedroom  was  spotless   and  the  breakfast  is  huge  and  beautiful. Brenda  the  waitress  was  kind  and  great  at  her  job. Brenda 
was  very  pleasant  and  always  had  a  smile.  Mary  the  cleaner  is  top  class  worker  and  keeps  the  place  spotless. I  will  be  back  again.  KEEP  up  the  great  work.
