Yes the hotel is a little run down but the reception staff are most helpful. We arrived late in the evening and they recommended a local restaurant that was still open. My boyfriend booked us in for 5 nights and the request for a double bed was met with raised eyebrows. It is understandable in Iran but like most of these countries many of the hotel staff remain in the closet and when we got to know them at breakfast they were keen to explain that most of the management were gay and very keen to meet like-minded guests as there is a very big underground scene in Tehran. A waiter introduced us to one place which was invite only but very free and easy. There were even a few Imams drinking and dancing with boys and having a great time. Good location for local transport but could do with a refurb
