We spent 3 amazing days at Sumatra Eco lodge. The location is so beautiful and lonely. Just we two, the owner, behind the bungalows the dschungel and in front the sea. The owner is very friendyl and his Englisch is very good (not often at Sumatra), so that we learned a lot about Indonasion politic and history.

The bungalow was big and nice too. We never had so much storage compoundments in any room being 1 month at Sumatra. Also the food was delicious. The owner prepared on request vegan pancakes for us. The food which is coming by boat was one of the best vegan food we could get over our whole stay at Sumatra.

Nevertheless bungalows and bathroom is very basic. Perfect for nature lovers who arranges with bathrooms outside.

Snorkelling was great too.

Just amazing

This place must be heaven on earth. A very quiet place far away from civilization. Beautiful surrounding, simple but great accomodation built from recycled material. The owner is a very nice and helpful guy. Hope we can come back one day!

This accommodation is a joke. Tree cabins made from found driftwood and rubbish. We booked a "deluxe" bungalow and a regular one. The "bathroom" in the first bungalow was a step-on in a 5 metres deep pit. You have to climb down a bamboo ladder. The "bathroom" in the second bungalow was a step on on the veranda. The "shower" was broken. The owner was not around so it was temporarely run by two French tourist that stayed there for a few weeks. He was furious that we cancelled the booking because he could not find other tourists.
The bungalows are not more than a roof and a bed. You have to climb bamboo ladders or tree stairs to reach the bungalows. Almost no electricity (one light bulb in the room by generator and solar panels) and no food (has to be brought by a boat). Bed is very basic. No other furniture. Boat trip is fairly expensive. Besides the French couple there were three other backpackers. So we decided to leave immediately. We dont mind basic but this is a joke and overpriced. Our driver already warned us about that but we thought it would be OK. 
So if you feel like a Robinson Crusoe or a Leonardo di Caprio from The Beach, this is the place for you. For all other tourist I advise you to stay away from this place.

Very bad

Sumatra ecolodge is a great place to relax. It’s not for everyone, you got to love it. But if you like the rough nature and easy living:
this is the place for you. Also, the owner is really helpful and a great conversation partner. He provides transport to Padang too!

Awesome!!!!

This is a very charming and peaceful place to spend few days with the most basic things. Don't put high expectations it's nothing luxury but it's a unique experience, if.you are a fan of wild island lifestyle this is the place to be, coffee and tea are amazing, made by the owner a very well educated and knowledgeable person, conversations go for long hours around coffees and barbecues, the snorkeling equipment and kayaks are available, I crossed to the next island by swim it was great seen few turtles on the way. Breakfast is provided a nice banana pancakes with coffee or tea. For lunch and dinner you can order from the near by village ...what I did was to use the canoe and sealed around for a bit met some local fishermen in the middle of the sea and bought few fish to make BBQ.

I used to give my opinion to be able to help the next visitors!

Sumatra Ecolodge is an amazing place but you just have to know what to expect, if I knew I would not have come alone to this place, or rather this jungle, or this lost island in the middle of Sumatra ...

But to do again with friends or as a couple, I would do it without hesitation!

I think the place has great potential, but the concept is to be reviewed ...

First the guard is alone and it's really sad to see ... it would take someone to accompany him and English would really be possible to find his bearings when we arrive ... 

Then cleanliness and layout could be totally redone, it would be nice to create a concept with visitors (write a word on a wall, make decorations, build something ...)

To finish the ecological side is not really there, but there is something to do, like go pick up the ocean waste, learn about nature, fish ...

In short it was an adventure but stay more than one night, alone, I would not be able to ...

I didn’t expect that...

Usually I do not like leaving a bad review but I have to warn people for this place! The beach and water is beautiful but this is not a place to stay. The owner who does not speek English and does not even welcome you is the only person there. There is no food, you have to order it but the owner does not give any info. But the worst are the 'bungalows'. We got a workbarn with tools and gasoline bottles under the bed and under the bungalow. The whole place smelled like gasoline. We are used to basic accomodation but this will make you sick. We asked the owner for an other place but he did not want to help us. We felt like he just did not care about tourists and wanted to make money. It is described as 'Eco' but it is not! We ended up leaving the same day. The only way of leaving was with a fishing boat (friends of the owner) who we had to pay 300.000IDN for a very short trip. Its scandalous that you misleed and treat people this way. We made a long trip and spend money to get to the accomodation  which is horrible and the owner does not care. The things that are advertised also on Booking.com are not true. Do not go here!
