Excellent service by the staff. Car parking available. Clean rooms and the food is exceptional in all cuisines. Excellent ambience coupled with hospitality by Mr. Suresh himself made this stay unforgettable. Very close to the beach and all nearby restaurants with well lit interiors of rooms done in exquisite style.

One of the best hotel experiences in Pondicherry

Very comfortable stay, good service. Clean, spacious rooms where you can get lost in the old colonial world. Well maintained premises and courteous service. Overall would recommend to anyone who admires old colonial buildings. The rooms had a cute little sit out next to room to chill and enjoy your book with a cup of coffee or just hang out with family.

Savouring the French colonial experience at Pondy!

Dune de l'Orient is a gem nestled in the heart of Pondicherry white town. Don't go expecting the amenities of a standard five star hotel because the this is luckily much less and much more than that. The impeccable staff gracefully treads the fine line between providing a detail and guest oriented hospitality experience and allow you to define the contours of your stay within the walls of this heritage building tastefully turned into a... well, hotel, for lack of a better word. 
It has been home for my family in ways that far exceed the protocol of an online review but I'm happy to share the experience so that others might find their way to the courtyard at the heart of this Dune de l'Orient. 
A true gem.

A gem. Not your standard five star rated hotel

If you want five star luxury, this hotel isn't for you.  But if you want french meets indian chic style with antique furniture, four poster beds you need the boxes provided to climb onto and an oasis of a courtyard for dining, then this is the hotel for you.  The location is excellent being based in the french quarter of Puducherry.  The staff are professional and knowledgeable.  Top tip ...  ask for an upstairs bedroom.  We would thoroughly recommend this hotel and hope to stay here again.

Perfect for Puducherry

Very clean and a cute hotel with extremely polite and helpful staf.  Overall a delightful experience. Mr. Suresh was particularly very prompt and helpful. Our stay was more pleasant qith the support given by the team. Wonderful place for a short peaceful vacation.

DELIGHT PERSONIFIED

This could be a very quirky hotel in a great old building but it is extremely run down. Our room had some interesting pieces of furniture but unfortunately the bedroom and bathroom were in need of a good clean. The shower was so scaled up only a trickle of water could come through but luckily it was hot. 
The breakfast was very basic although you could have a reasonable omelette. 
Out of the 10 hotels we have stayed in during our 3 week trip this was the worst yet one of the most expensive. Not worth the cost. The staff tried to be helpful when asked for something. 
The website photos are very deceiving!

An run down hotel in an interesting building.

Like other reviewers I feel this could be a fabulous boutique hotel but it needs an enormous investment first.  We stayed for three nights and I was glad to leave.  It is hard to say much positive about our experience except the person in charge did try hard to be helpful and the location is good. Sorry not to be more positive but considering the price we paid it wasn’t a good experience.

Very disappointing stay

Stayed for three nights. This could be SO good but it has a rather tired neglected feel. Rooms are a great size but have an unclean feel. We had no hot water for our entire stay, not a huge problem in the heat, but for the price we paid you should really be getting some warm water.

Breakfast ‘buffet’ was minimal. Location is indeed great. We heard that they changed ownership in 2021 and maybe it’s been COVID affected but with some proper investment I hope they get back on their feet. Otherwise, the newer hotels will take their business

Faded glory….

The place is lovely, but not too well maintained. Rooms are spacious but dusty and need a bit of upkeep. You would expect a bit of luxury for the price you're paying! Restaurant is average, lacks the ambience, but serves good tasty food, with a smile. Service at the restaurant is good. Management is very average, but Mr. Suresh stands out, who will go out of his way to assist you. Keep up the good work, Mr. Suresh. 
Try and book a room not facing the road, to obviously avoid the traffic noise.     

A comfortable but mediocre stay.

This could be fantastic it is a renovated school and has the bones to be a great boutique hotel. But it’s sadly unloved has no charisma and though staff are helpful it feels they lack direction. There’s no uniform for staff - the restaurant staff are keen to help but not properly trained and tea and coffee are served in steel cups . There’s no breakfast menu it’s a bit of guess work with what you can . The room was comfortable but again unloved . Coffee was replenished. Walls need a fresh lick of paint . A hallway is filled with odd furniture . There’s no fresh flowers or fruit or objects to bring life to the place . It sells its self as a heritage hotel sadly that heritage has mostly been removed. It could be so much more with some direction. Most infuriating thing was our room kept tripping and in the middle of the night we lost power only resumed when we went down to reception. Not once were we offered a new room.
