Not as long as I thought it would be, beautiful and bright, shops on either side, lovely little gift shops, places to eat and get a coffee,very pretty and unique, keep walking past the colours and it leads you right to the hallgrimsta

I stayed here on multiple occasions during June, using it as a base for my journeys around the country.   Great, central location in the middle of Reykjavik.  Walking distance to everything...

Home is well maintained and tidy.   Kristin was a fantastic host and very responsive.

There are two stories in Reykjavik Rainbow. Upstairs had (if i remembered correctly) 5 smaller rooms sharing one bathroom, and the first floor had two rooms which sleeps 4 sharing one bathroom.

My group of four had the room on the first floor and it was comfortable. The room was spacious enough for us to open our huge suitcases at the same time with no issues.

The only issue we had with the room was that when we arrived, the dustbin was not emptied out...

The place may be a little hard to find as the name is not displayed prominently. But it is conveniently located, and nearby many restaurants and shops.

If you are not able to sleep with noises, this may not be the best place for you. It’s located right by 2 roads and at night, many party revellers passes by.

Spacious bedroom and bathroom

Reasonably nice guest house with shared bathrooms and shared kitchen.  Some parking across the street otherwise you have to find a spot on the street.  I think someone stole one of our rental car hubcaps there (at least that is when we noticed it missing!).  Very clean, good location. Check in was automated - I got an email giving me the door code and room number.  all worked just fine.

Reasonable guest house - shared bathrooms, a little noisy

I had a mostly good experience at the Reykjavik Rainbow. My room was upgraded to a double because the guest already in the single room added a night. The room was well appointed and the bed very comfortable. The view from my corner room was very nice.

However, noise in the house travels too well. Every door opening and shutting, every key turning in a lock would echo through the house.

Add to that, the windows are single-paned and this house is located in the heart of the downtown area. That is convenient for tourists to get around, but it's also near to bars of which many stay open until 5 and 6 am on the weekends. The streets around the Rainbow are a major thoroughfare for loud and drunken individuals. Even if I had brought a white noise machine, it would not have covered these voices. Saturday night had to sleep with ear buds listening to music all night to catch a few winks.

Other than the noise issue, the house was kept clean. Other tenants were moderately clean in the common kitchen.

If I was a party animal or a deep sleeper, I would stay here again. But as I'm an olden person who needs her sleep, I think I'll choose a quieter part of town next time.

Nice place, great location, but also poor location for a light sleeper

I have to give this place 1 star because we almost didn't get in. We booked this room only a few days before we stayed... probably only 2 - but that still should have been enough time to be sent all the information. We had no problem finding the place but when we arrived, we found that the front door was locked and needed a code which we had not been provided. We knocked on the door and other people that we had met while travelling were also staying there by coincidence and they let us in. The set up is like a house and then you rent by room and there is a common kitchen and common bathrooms. We were four travellers and there was no one there to greet us which was NOT communicated to us at all. In fact on the email, it made it seem that there would be someone there because it specifically says that payment will be taken at the Rainbow. After we arrived, we didn't even know what room we were in because theres like 8 rooms. We had to walk around and see which ones were empty and then randomly guess which one was ours as we had four people sharing in ours. It was very uncomfortable to see which rooms were occupied as of course many of these people were strangers and we were intruding on their space. A couple of girls who were also staying at the Rainbow said that they had received an email that had their room number as well as the door code but I checked all my inboxes and never got such an email. They said they also had a phone number you could reach the owner but the Rainbow has no phone that you can make local calls on, and as Canadians our phones didn't work! The girls were European and let us use their phone which was SO nice but no one answered the phone. We had to go out as soon as we dropped our stuff so we were really hoping that our stuff would still be there when we got back and that we hadn't left it in the wrong room. If we hadn't been recognized, we would not have got in and the owner was unavailable so we would have been out of a place to sleep! Not a risk I would be willing to take if I had known.

Otherwise, the Rainbow was a good experience. It was very clean, well decorated and it has an amazing location downtown close to the Harpa where our event was that evening. The bathrooms were nice, but I could see it being a problem as there are only two available for the whole house. Large kitchen with fridge and appliances that were available to all which would be great if you were staying longer term. Each bedroom came with a key so you could lock up your room when you weren't in it.

Weird situation...

I am going to write the same as I did on Booking.com. 
It was just impossible to sleep, and this was a big deal for me. And I am not telling about the other customers, they are not guilty. The problem is that the room and bathroom locks are REALLY loud, they make a huge sound that makes it impossible for anyone to not wake up when someone opens any door. My opinion: if you are not a party animal who will arrive at the guesthouse really late, don´t book this place. Even though, everything else is good. The rooms are great, the bathroom too (but only one in our floor). The location is good also.
