Thykkvibær Guesthouse

This place is next to a farm about 5 miles down the road from Kirkjubaejarklaustur village. Being January it was very quiet both in the building and in the surrounding countryside. The essentials (heat, hot water) were there, as well as a nice little living room and full kitchen. Clean and recently renovated. Overall a good choice for affordable (~$45/night) lodging in the Skaftafell area in wintertime.

I only stayed one night here , I found the guesthouse to be clean and tidy, a full kitchen and two shared bathrooms. No television but very fast internet service. I would stay here again. One note I arrived at night in rain and it was a bit hard to fine the name on the road is not Thykkvabaer guesthouse it is another name which I don't recall.

Cozy guesthouse in a remote spot

Very nice stay

Far from town, if you forget something for dinner there is no place around to buy anything. It is OK for one night, but I wouldn't recommend it for longer stays
The house is nice but rather "out of town", we had a room for the 4 of us, it was comfortable and big enough but there was noise from open/close the doors and bed might be a bit aged.

This Guesthouse is pleasant, comfortable and clean but terrifically expensive!  It was the most we paid per night in a two week holiday and it wasn't the best accommodation.  We had a shared bathroom, which was OK but for what we paid I would have expected an ensuite.  The kitchen, cooking and eating area was generous enough and we met some nice people there which added to the experience.  
It is quite a distance from Kirkjubaejarklauster, out on the coastal plain.  It is wise to take your own provisions for an evening meal as it is a long way to the nearest eatery.

It would have been "Very Good" if it hadn't been so expensive!  It is luxury priced without the luxury!

The wifi was weak and no-one staying at the same time as me could do anything with it. A couple of people staying there felt cold and asked the owner to turn the heating on. The only trouble was, this meant heating in all rooms without any way of adjusting it to suit your taste. Several of us felt rather over-warm in our rooms as a result! The owner is in a farm house a fair distance from the building so you have to ring her for any assistance. The door to the shared bathroom was very difficult to close, which made a loud noise when anyone used it - especially during the night! But everything was clean and there was an additional small seating area that was more private.
