I take online reviews very seriously. As an American who travels abroad annually, often to countries where I don't speak the language, it is critical for me and my husband to rely on the comments and reviews from others to help us navigate our stays. Having said that, I tend to normally write reviews for those hotel locations and attractions that are so superb I feel they need to be written about. Rarely do I post a negative one, unless of course, the stay was so terrible I feel I need to share the information with other fellow travelers. This is one of those times. 

I should disclose that when I booked this hotel, I did not consult TripAdvisor and booked it quickly out of necessity. It was "cheaper" than the ones in Munich and Dachau (where we were site seeing the next two days). I regret not looking here first because I completely agree with the other negative reviews. 

This hotel was way, way too expensive for what it was. We needed a late check in as we were driving all day. The owner called us at 930 PM to see if we were still planning on arriving. Unfortunately, the exit to Augsburg was closed and we found ourselves lost in the countryside of Bavaria. So, we asked for her assistance in trying to find another exit. She was minimumly helpful and told us,to go to the next town. Luckily, we relied on the kindness of two strangers who were out for a nighttime stroll and helped us. We called the owner back about how to check in and she said, "The key will be in the door upstairs. You will need to pay in Euro tomorrow morning." She went on to complain that she "only works from 6-8 PM and would not answer our calls anymore."

The paying in cash did not upset us as many smaller hotels do that. What did upset us however was that the woman was not there in the morning to give the money to. We waited for 30 minutes and she never arrived. We tried contacting her throughout the day (email, phone call, etc.). She only called us back one time and argued with me saying that I now would have to pay her for the long distance charges. We explained that the only reason we were calling her is because she was never available at the hotel itself. With that, one would expect that a hotel that rents to tourists would not be upset to have to talk to said tourists. 

We agreed on the phone that we would pay in Euro, in full, the following morning (our check out morning). We were in the car ready to check out at 8 AM. We called, and called, and called, and called and called to no avail. We left multiple messages. Her groundskeeper called her. Even a delivery man who was there with a scheduled delivery called her. Finally the woman called me back and was quite irate about us costing her more money (for the calls) and that she would not be there later on that morning to receive our money. She told us we would have to wait for her. We explained that we were leaving to travel and could not wait. She informed us that we would have to bring the money to her own personal home. Obviously my husband and I declined to do that. So, we ended up agreeing to place the money on the nightstand in the room after waiting for an hour to leave for our day. 

In addition to the terrible service, the room was disgusting It was more like a 20something's dorm room with poor smelling sheets and the "extra hotel equipment" (like roll away beds, buckets, etc.) in the room. There is no wifi in the rooms. 

I do not have one positive thing to say about this place and that is rare for me Please avoid this hotel if at all possible.

Avoid this location at all costs!

Please do not even consider booking this place. Forget about the reviews saying that it has an idyllic setting. All of that is wiped out by the fact that the place is infested with mice, a fact which the owner acknowledges, but concedes that she cannot do anything about it. All of this is said with a smile. No apology is given for the high cost of the mice-infested rooms. It is a quiet location, and you should be able to sleep well, however, like my partner and I, you will probably spend the night chasing mice which are appearing from holes in the wall around your bed. Tom and Jerry fans would love it! If you are not a Tom and Jerry fan,  please avoid.

I`v been in some 500+ hotels, motels, rooms etc. in my life, and this ranks among the 3 worst. 

First, this isn`t a hotel, because there wasn`t any one there when we got (around 5pm), but the door and the rooms were open. We figured this out when a I guy came with a BMW, got in wearing an expensive suit and got out in running clothes. He went jogging in the nature, and was using the "hotel" as a changing room. 

Then, we called the manager, she came in 20 minutes, and said we can choose a room, since there was no one there, but in two days, it is going to be full, she said. We chose the best they got, and the best they got was ugly, dirty rooms.

Pillows with other people`s hair who slept there, drainage tubes that were clearly not working, so all the water in the bath, was going on the floor, and doors with glass that you can see through, directly in the hall, outside the room. Unbelievable.

The place has no free wi-fi, it has a public t-mobile network, that charges amazing price for internet. Rooms have some fantastic smell of something rotten, and after a few days we understood what is it. Mice. Well at least one witch we named Jerry. 

I guess this once was a great place, somewhere in the early 70`s from the last century. Final tought - DON`T GO IN THERE, NO MATER WHAT.

Worst place I have ever been

The hotel is woderfully designed and located in a beautiful area. We were pleasently welcomed by the owner, and since we are a family of four she was very generous to give us a second room free of charge. The hotel is coviniently located 5 km from Augsburg.

Highly recommended

The hotel Zum Ziegelstadel I visited for a night only. I checked the hotels via HRS portal a day before my arrival, but as I was not sure, that I will be the night in Augsburg I couldn't booked it. The price was quite good, only 49€ + 8€ the breakfast. The hotel is situated ca 5 km from the city, I thought, it is the reason. Next day, when I was sure I will stay in Augsburg I called to the hotel from the car for booking it. The landlady told me a single room is free and she also told me a price of 95€, what I thought it was 59€. After my arrival at 18,00 I was asked for 95€+5€. I paid a 100€ and went to room. Than I checked the price at HRS again - still a room for 49€ was available... I went to ask the landlady, but she responded with the smile "during the beer-feast in Munich it is a normal price, every hotel in around is out-booked". The HRS portal but sad something else...
The hotel itself is no maintained, I haven't seen such a hotel in Germany yet (I have already slept in more than 50 hotels in Germany). A mess around the hotel as well as in the reception (a green aquarium, you couldn't see through) , everywhere many things (old, etc.) in disorder and chaos.
The room was quite nice for 2* hotel (which is official rating), however each family pension in Germany is in better conditions, th lack of maintenance and care was to see everywhere. There was an exceptional wide TV Philips Viera.
The hotel is situated in the nice area, wood around, golf club is ca 300m away.
Hotel has a restaurant, however in the day of my arrival was closed (for 100€ a night you cannot get a beer...).
The breakfast was appropriate, however the room was totally empty, nothing to furnish or beautifying it, only dusty windows...
I will not recommend the hotel to anyone, I will never come back.
