Fabulous traditional German food. Highly recommend the Roast Beef with Bratkartoffeln. The Weiss wurst with sauerkraut and Semmel knoedel was so good.
Great rooms in a style of a German Landhaus. A lot of interesting art and furnishings throughout and a bar and Stube that feel like stepping back in time, but a lot of class. Really enjoyed staying here.

True traditional German gasthaus

The hotel is very dated and not very attractive from the outside . Apart from one guy the staff are unbelievably arrogant and rude. I don't know why but his whole attitude screams hatred of all things English . He refused to serve us as it was too late while continuing to serve his German guests . He sits at the end of the bar all evening chain smoking so the place including the restaurant stinks of cigarettes . The girl serving breakfast was very polite and cheerful , perhaps she could train the rest of the staff ? 
The food is reasonably priced and the quality is much the same. Overall , you should defiantly look for somewhere else to stay in Rosengarten.  Perhaps the owners sisters hotel ? 
 

Prejudiced 

Decided to stay here on our way to southern Europe. 
We were looking for a really nice, German Gasthaus that we love and from the outside it looked promising.
Once inside it was unfortunately renovated to death with no charm left at all.
Had a meal in the bar which was more cosy than the big diningroom looking more like a congresscenter.
The room, very basic and charmless, overlooked a church (pretty). Our room (number 27) was on the top floor we thought so when someone started to walk with heavy steps in the "room" above us we were surprised and couldn't sleep unfortunately.
Don't know if there is an apartment on the loft but whoever walks around up there need to be more considerate to the paying guests below.
Went for a walk in the evening in the village, there is nothing else to do here, this gasthaus is it.

Great price, but like a retirementhome

If you are travelling on the A1 and want to avoid the bright life and lights of Hamburg, but would prefer to experience real Germany, try Boettchers.
It's a Gasthaus, not a 3 or 4 star hotel. We stayed there almost on a whim as we needed to stop on our way further North and were de!ighted by this place. The rooms are simple but well furnished. The restaurant is excellent and serves delicious local specialities. We ate there on a rather dull midweek autumnal evening and were delighted to find the place full of locals enjoying the food and the atmosphere. All the staff were efficient and charming. This is a place where you can enjoy very reasonably priced accomodation combined with good food and a pleasant ambiance in a traditional German way.
