Gasthof Rebstock

Yet again I arrive with no reservation. Stupidly I’d pitched up in the Bodensee area of a nice Friday night & suddenly wondered why I couldn’t find a room anywhere. Had my head not been addled by travelling so far so fast, it would have hit me sooner. As it was I looked in vain at many places to the lake side of the main road, all of which had no rooms anywhere I searched. It didn’t actually take too long for the penny to drop & I decided to look on the opposite side of the 31. It was extremely hot & threatening serious thunder, time was marching on, I was hungry & not a little tired having driven from San Bernardino in Switzerland by way of the Stelvio Pass all the way here, so when I turned onto the Ravensburg road & almost immediately saw the Rebstock with little green signs advertising rooms available, I was ‘in like Flynn’ to coin a phrase. To be honest I’d have taken the room almost no matter what the conditions were. Fortunately it wasn’t somewhere I felt the least bit disappointed. It’s obvious from the outside what type of establishment it is, & it’s typical of its sort. It’s clean, the rooms are a reasonable size for the price, everything about it is reasonable & good. Except the food – that’s brilliant! It’s not mediocre, it’s great. Again, it’s typical of this sort of establishment, but it’s as good as I’ve eaten anywhere else, & I’ve tried a lot of this type of food over the years. All in all it’s unremarkable, but it’s honest clean reliable & what you see is what you get. A previous reviewer mentioned that rooms at the front are a bit noisy. YES!! What do you expect? It’s on a main road for heaven’s sake. The road that Friday night wasn’t too busy & once I’d remembered to shut the Velux window to keep the deluge of rain out, it wasn’t so noisy anyway. I’d thoroughly recommend Gasthof Rebstock. Considering its proximity to the lake, it’s a steal.
