After a friendly welcome the first setback was that we were asked to pay in cash as the CC-port didn't work. We were taken to our room on the first floor via a steep staircase at the to of which we were asked if we needed help with the luggage. The room was equipped in simple IKEA furniture style but nevertheless clean and well-heated with a quite unattractive view to the road and the railway line. The next setback were the rough towels that reminded of times long gone and the tight shower where accidentally touching the water tap with your back while turning might cause a heat shock to your body. We would have liked to contact our friends but WiFi was not available, nor was there public viewing of Germany vs. Ireland, as the hotel-restaurant closed long before the end of the game and there was no tv anyways, so we watched in our room.
By the way, the "potatoe-guesthaus" (Kartoffelgasthaus) boasts of its refined regional potatoe dishes, but when it comes to potatoe pancakes they are for sure not fresh but deep-frozen and greasy from the deep fryer. The potatoe-soup came nice and warm from the microwave  but was nothing special. The unnecessary coating of the fish was made of fluent egg which did not actually give the fish a special flavour. Only the local cucumbers were worth tasting.
The best thing that occurred to us during our stay was the rich breakfast with crisp rolls and a nice choice of sausages cheeses, vegetables and cereals, but still the same setback occured as during dinner: you couldn't seat yourself where you wanted because then the staff would have had to set extra tables. This latter experience strongly reminded us of GDR-times when seat were assigned not according to availability but to the deliberate decisions of the management. 
We had no reason to complain, but we won't go there again.

They were trying

We stayed one night in this hotel, we had familly room, that means that me and my husband had one room and his 2 kids had one room of their own. That was good, both some private time for us and for the kids. The toilet/shower room you could enter from our room. 
The service was nice, and the local food they offered in the restaurant was very good too.
The minus of the mosquitos outside , but its not the hotels fault :) 
The breakfast buffe was small but home made scramble eggs and really good breakfast. We went by full belly.
We stayed in this hotel becasue we visited Tropical Islands, which was 15 minutes by car from the hotel.

Nice familly hotel

We decided to stay in Luebbenau for a couple of nights as an antidote to a few busy days in Berlin. It was easy to reach on the train. I noticed a special offer on their website for two nights which included breakfast and an evening meal, so we chose that deal. The staff were welcoming and there was a cosy ambience in the bar/dining area. Our room was enormous with a huge shower room ensuite (no bath). There was a large old-fashioned TV in our room which didn't work. I complained about this, but I think there was some problem with the aerial and it remained off for the duration of our stay, which was a shame. The staff were apologetic and compensated us with a bottle of wine when we left.
Our stay was comfortable. The food was very good, although the portions were far too generous. The restaurant is obviously popular with the locals. 
Luebbenau was very much out-of-season, so it was a quiet couple of days, which we enjoyed, but I guess the Spreewald region is best seen during May to October. If you are fed up with anonymous chain hotels, you should give this place a try.
