Weinberghof

We were looking for somewhere to stay within easy reach of the the lovely towns around the Bodensee [Lake Constance] and after much deliberation decided on the Weinberghof. It is situated in the lovely little wine village of Hagnau, slightly out of the village and on a hill so fabulous views over the lake to the Swiss Alps. Very peaceful being away from the busy main road. It is a guesthouse with b and b but also self catering appartments. It is also a working farm producing grapes for wine and schnapps and also apples. Christa, the owner, doesn't speak much English but together with my very limited German we managed to understand one another. She is very welcoming . The bedroom was a good size and the view from the large balcony was breathtaking with fantastic views over the lake towards the Swiss Alps. Breakfast consisted of fresh fruit and yoghurt, hams and cheeses, and eggs, excellent local bread and conserves. Many lovely towns within easy reach either by car or by boat. The island of Mainau should not be missed. To finish off the day, there is a multitude of good restaurants in Hagnau then just go and sit on your balcony with a glass of the local wine from the honesty bar and watch the sun go down over the lake and the Alps-magical!
