Ritsa Hotel

This hotel is at one of the best locations in Sukhumi, at the end of the beach front promenade and also at the beginning of the metropolitan center, where most of the city halls and government buildings and downtown buildings are located. The wifi did not work while i was here, but no worry, the old fashioned cavernous cafe-restaurant across the street has excellent wifi for Sukhumi, and the food there is moderately priced and well prepared. I believe the name of it was Cafe Apsny. My room had a romantic antique bed and a rococo style window sitting spot within a cylindrical alcove with creative flowing curtains and an view to envy of the hotel garden with the famous dragon sculptures spewing water into the pond, whose fame preceded the first opening of this hotel. Price was a reasonable $60 for such a historic hotel in a city with not really so many such hotels, but instead having lots and lots of motorists' motels [where you cook your own meals and wash your own laundry, popular with all the Russians who are not rich and who to save rubles flock to Sukhumi because it is much much much cheaper than Sochi]. At the check in counter, having a sleepy classiness of its own [like Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca], three young and handsome Abkhazian deskclerks, one male and two females, could speak some English, the male much better however. They were all professional and courteous and helpful. Very near the hotel, away from the seaside direction and at the first traffic light intersection, are two ATMs for cash withdrawals [3000 ruble maximum per bankcard per transaction]. The famous "Abkhaz" coffee is served for a very modest price right on the seaside in front of the hotel where all the old men are playing chess and chatting all day long.
