Original Sokos Hotel Viru

We arrived In Tallinn via the Tallink ferry and walked to the hotel with our big airport bags, obviously tourists. #1 - Yes we could check in early, #2 Here's a room upgrade. What an excellent way to start a holiday. Our newly-assigned Superior Room with King bed was excellent as you'd expect. There was plenty of room to lay our bags out to access our winter gear, room to hang clothes and a warm bathroom to help dry anything that got too wet during the day. The bed was big and comfortable but the pillows were too soft for us (this was common across all hotels on our trip, but putting a spare towel inside the pillowcase can help firm it up a bit). We also had the buffet breakfast each day - typical of European hotels - meat, cheese, bread, yoghurt etc, and we were very happy with what was on offer. It's just across the road from the Old Town if you're going there, and only a short-ish walk from the ferry terminal (even with big holiday suitcases). All our dealings with staff were very friendly and positive. There's a good sized shopping mall right next door as well. This hotel may also be known to some as the "KGB Hotel" and we highly recommend the tour offered that covers the role of the premises in Estonia's history - it's for everyone, not just guests.
