I've stayed at this property twice with 2 friends and had a great experience both times. The first time we stayed upstairs, and to clarify the bathroom situation mentioned in other reviews, it is not outdoors and was only for us. Each room doesn't have a separate bathroom, but we didn't share with people we didn't know. The owners were very accommodating in terms of using the kitchen, and the upstairs terrace is big and heated. The second time we rented the apartment downstairs, which has a fireplace in the living area and a decent kitchen. They provided ample firewood for our stay so that although it's a bit chilly at night, the apartment was comfortable. The property itself is great--very quiet with excellent views of the lake and village below, and spectacular sunsets. This is a great place to chill out. The owners are very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was exactly as promised. Araque is a cute village, easily walkable from the property. I'm staying for an extended time in Otavalo, so I'm glad to have found this place where I can come and unwind and have a break from noise and bustle.

Tranquil getaway near Otavalo

If you are seeking a place of comfortable peace and quiet, with nice hosts and a yard of animals, this may be the place for you. Located on the mountainside above Lago San Pablo and the small village of Araque, Samay Toa is off the beaten path in more ways than one, yet to reach it you must use paths beaten down for thousands of years by the footfalls of the indigenous people of the valley; the people still live simply here, herders and farmers of small plots, which give a patchwork appearance to the hillsides. This place is chill! Come and unplug.

we went for a coffee in the cafe. This place looks cosy and clean the coffee is perfect and the staff very friendly. You can eat in the garden. The selfmade cakes ( many varities ) are delicious. The location is perfect in the middle of the town but inside very quiet. Close to the famous Indian market. Reasonable prices.

The grounds are very nice, but the website and booking.com are misleading.  It is located UP on the hill, which gives you fabulous views of the lake & towns below.  But unless you have a 4 wheel car, which we did not, it is dangerous going up especially at night.  No restaurant on site as advertised and very few places in town.  They have a kitchen you can yse but you need to bring supplies with you as not much available in town.  I had asked about our room having a private bath and was told yes, BUT was not told it was located outside our room.  Cold nights so going outside at 3AM to use the bathroom was not fun.  Owners very nice & helpful.  Breakfast could have used more fruit.
