Hotel California

i have to say that it is the only place i stayed in guayaquil... :) initially went there only because it is cheap but then over time i started to like the place. it is fairly centrally located - about 2 min walk to the main plaza, about 5 min walk to the plaza de iguanas, about 10min (max) walk to the malecon and it has a big police station just around the corner (always good in guayaquil). it has good secure garage for the guests and it's free, you can leave your luggage there, i left it there for a week when i was in galapagos, and it's also free. the guys in reception are always helpful. i needed to take the car to the mechanics and they would make my phone calls for me as my spanish wasn't up to it then, helped me organize a taxi which took me there (i drove behind him), had maps of the town, recommended restaurants... simply were great. wifi is only in the reception area though. the rooms are fairly basic, have cable tv and usually very noisy air-con. half the rooms are windowless and dingy but you there to explore not stay in hotel right?! hotel has 3 levels of rooms and they always about level 1 - 3 but it has 2 more levels at the bottom which are for some other purpose... so level 1 is actually 3 floors up and level 3 is 5 floors up :) of course there is no elevator. so staying on level 3 will keep you slim too! ;) i think this is not a place everybody will love, but if you travel on budget then it's definitely good value v.v
