I have never written a poor review before, but I feel that this resort needs to make some changes. Building 71, is old the bathtub/shower combo is unsafe.  Our tub kept backing up with black water and sand.  The hotel did fix it; however, the tub was not cleaned in 7 days. No clean face cloths, or soap and the towels are old and stained.  I took pictures and showed them to guest serves.  They moved us to building 80 for our 2nd week. The pillows are terrible. The lobby area the furniture is tired. Pool area is slippery.  Pool furniture is old, dirty and stained. They use this area for a few evening events, and it is kind of gross to have guests using them in their clean evening clothing. Also, be prepared to get up really early to save you chairs.  Absolutely unacceptable.  Guests were saving chairs at the pool and beach areas, and no one be in them for hours. The bars would run out of different mixes, liquor, beer. ODD. People were not happy. We have never experienced this before!!! Restaurants were fair, but inconsistent. You would think that the staff would inform you of what they were out of when being seated before asking for your order.  Then impatiently waiting for a different choice.  this happened several times. Most staff are friendly, entertainment staff were excellent, and the grounds are beautiful and well maintained. You will receive an email to pick your room and reserve restaurants before your arrival.  This was not available, so I contacted the resort, they had me contact the rewards department.  I received an email asking for our restaurants and room preference, we were informed by email these requests were sent to guest services and would try to accommodate but could not guarantee. Upon arrival they had no idea.   We were able to reserve the restaurants on the app once checked in. It also would be nice upon check in if they explain the bracelets where you can go and where you cannot. This is a large resort.  There were also 3 excursion issues, waiting for shopping over an hour and half with a no show.  Fishing excursion we were supposed to be on an AM charter, that changed to afternoon.  When arriving at the marina were told the winds had changed and the waves were 7 to 9 feet and wanted us to sign a waiver.  NO WAY. Back to the resort.  Asked to do a different excursion they suggested a day long river, catamaran, snorkeling excursion. Received a call 11:30pm time change be at the lobby at 7:20 am instead.  They did not have us on their list, so they left.  The rep. came in early and had the bus come back for us because our excursion had been cancelled and that was the reason for the time change, they put us on a different excursion. We were taken by boat out the catamaran in the marina, snorkeling was around the catamaran in the marina with other boats and fuel on top of the water, before leaving for a sand bar then a private island.   I sent an email with our concerns before writing this review, but it was as expected.  There are plenty of other hotel choices in the Dominican Republic to choose from.  Please take time to read the reviews before booking this hotel they are honest and not just people complaining.

Disappointing.  Hotel is not a 4/5 star hotel

This is the third time we have visited with the family the Aquamarina apartments
From the reception pick up of the unit keys to the exit, the service of the hospitality is correct
The apartment is spectacular, fully equipped with everything a guest may need, spacious with 4 rooms perfectly furnished and decorated
You can ejoy of the beauty and peace of Cap Cana wiyh no one bothering you
The other side of Cap Cana is that the owners do not visit the area very often, so the restaurants and shops are closed and gives a feeling of abandonment of an immense area
On the other hand some owners do not comply with the rules of operation of the condominiums, and bring dogs and glass bottles to the pool which is completely forbidden, without the security doing anything to avoid it
On the other hand, the situation of algae that pile on the shore by tons daily, without any maintenance team effective enough to solve the situation,  makes it impossible to use the beach although there are the wonderful pools, very well cared to enjoy the sun and refresh in them.
Overall, an excellent Dominican Republic luxury option

Excellent option with few cons

The condo we stayed in was absolutely beautifully decorated and maintained.  There was not one thing we needed that was not on site in this amazing 2 bedroom home.  The owners bought 2 years ago and imported all of the furnishings and accoutrement so everything here is up to "American" standards. We wanted for nothing.  Having one of the large pools and the beach right out the door was perfect and we took advantage of that daily.  There is parking in the building and we found having a car for our group of 4 worked out quite nicely.  Having said all that, I have to agree with reviewer JME1313:  while the grounds of this area of Cap Cana are stunning, there is indeed lots of work to be done throughout the entire development.  The most stunning realization was that there just weren't more guests at ANY of the CC properties.  While every one of our meals eaten at a restaurant was delicious, we were quite frequently either the only group dining, or one of just a couple of tables.  We may have seen 5 - 10 people at both the pools and the beach the entire week.  Some of the advertised restaurants had been closed and the mini market (while reviewed and still open in December) was gone as well.  My daily AM walk was interesting and easy on all paved pathways but a little eerie as well, with no other walkers or guests on the property.  There are some buildings very close to Aquamarina that have already become neglected and are in rather bad shape so I'm not sure what the long term potential is for this development.  I hope it experiences a surge in funding and is able to make a guest friendly comeback before more of it loses it's initial brilliance.  Do some online research about Cap Cana in general before you go so you understand the financial aspect of this Manhattan sized property.

Beautiful Grounds & Condo - Very Deserted

We stayed at Aquamarina a week over Christmas. The owner of our condo was very responsive and easy to work with. The condo itself was clean and well decorated. Several maintenance issues developed that were not repaired during our stay, frustrating but not deal breakers. The management and staff in general were disinterested and not at all willing to assist. Whether it was requesting a taxi, or asking to make reservations for an on site restaurant, it seemed that you were bothering them. The most disappointing was the complex itself. It seems like the developers were in a dream land when they built it. Many unfinished, half built, or closed units and shops. The marina was almost empty. The restaurants combined poor service with terrible food and high prices. A triple feat!
Three of the five in our party became ill during our stay.
The positives were that there was nobody around the pools and beaches and you could pick your spot. The bad news was the place deserted...pool side swim up bars that never opened..a sad place.
Transportation into Punta Cana was $60 round trip so that was not a great choice. Driving in the DR was not recommended, and I would have to agree. We will be hard pressed to return to the DR and will never return to the Cap Cana property.

Lights on, nobody home

Cap Cana is a dream place....the land of imagination and with all the potential to become the most cool, chic, elegant and luxurious gated project in the caribbean. Great real estate, golf courses, marina, options for top international hotel companies, etc.
The reality today is, a lot of work to do..... maintenance personnel and service untrained and insufficient, to maintain the green areas , swimming pools, beach beds ,of what is supposed to be the most elegant real estate of the country.

Best part, the tranquility , the feeling of privacy , exclusivity and peace , by the wonderful scenery , white sand and turquoise sea

Great hideaway, work to do...

Aquamarina in the Cap Cana development was one of our families favorite new year holiday trips! I found our unit on VRBO and everything was exactly as represented!

We had my husband and myself, our married son and daughter-in-law and our younger son who is in law school(and had to do some studying). Everyone had their own room and bathroom and the living areas were incredibly spacious, including the balcony. Lots of seating and tables. Plenty of room to spread out and do different things, yet be all together. We have stayed in many resorts and vrbos and Isabel is by far the most hospitable owner we have encountered, taking care of all the details and even providing a cell phone to use. She truly has thought of the needs of her guests. Ana Victoria was such a blessing to us as well! she is a great cook and just a joy to be around. She was also very helpful with information!

Api Beach is a great place for drinks and snacks and even dinner on the beach close by. We also ordered from IlCappucino one night and watched bowl games on the great tv. Aquamare is a good restaurant in walking distance. Juanillo Beach is also a fun place to go by car or cab. But our favorite dinner out was at La Palapa at Caleton at the end of Cap Cana down by the Punta Espada golf course. 

we felt very safe in cap cana. Lots of security and well maintained facilities.

We loved the pools and the beach and especially floating in the coves! Make sure you bring shoes or flip flops for walking to the beach as it is pretty rocky.

All in all this was a wonderful rental experience! I highly recommend it and look forward to going back soon!
