Fort Young Hotel

Jan 25th to Feb 8th 2025 My husband and I were delighted by our 14 day stay at the Fort Young hotel and diving Centre in Roseau, Dominica. We had a bed & breakfast package with the hotel including six dive days (2 tank dives per morning) and six activity days. We were very comfortable in our spacious and clean room in the older part of the hotel. We enjoyed the balcony where we could see and hear the waves below us. The cruise ships did not bother us much and we watched them come and go with interest. Being so close to Roseau meant we could easily pop out to roam. The hotel staff were polite, friendly and keen to help. The food in the restaurant was fine, but not outstanding. We felt it was too expensive and rather limited to eat there every night. All the piña colada’s were excellent from the different bars in the hotel complex. On our first full day, we went whale watching and saw female sperm whales with one calf. This is available from the Dive Centre. The scuba diving was well organised with plenty of experienced and helpful staff available. We dived on alternative days and were blessed with good visibility. We saw lots of sea life, including a seahorse, nurse shark, octopus, turtle and a sharptail eel out swimming. Some dive sites were repeated, but we felt that was inevitable given that we completed 12 dives each. Most importantly, we felt safe and looked after during the diving experience. All the dive staff were helpful, and a special thank you to Brad. The hotel concierge put together an itinerary of activities which were delivered by Khatt Tours. Our driver/guides, Kirt, Jeffery and Lambert were excellent. Our six trips definitely enhanced our holiday experience. Jeffery was extremely knowledgable. Lambert came in the water with us when we visited Titou Gorge. We saw and learnt a lot about Dominica’s natural beauty, history and culture. If we return, I would love to ride on the cable car across the mountain tops when it opens next year. I would also be interested a Caribbean cooking experience and creating some art and craft.
