My husband and I signed up for this budget hostel after reading so many excellent reviews here as our 8th stop during our 2-month tour of Europe back in 2010. The location is outskirt from Prague, it is 30 minutes by tram plus another 10 minutes on foot without luggage. Signage is very poor, with just the word HOSTEL (barely visible from the overhead tram station) made it difficult to find our way to the hostel at night.

We were given a triple room with 2 set of recycle sofa joined as a double bed. It was very uncomfortable to sleep in. The wifi was a dud as it never work during our stay while the PC in the dining area are of stone age period.

The next morning, we were looking forward to the much talked about “out of this world” breakfast. However, there was a huge crowd of hungry students occupying the whole dining area, emptying the buffet spread in seconds. The “buffet” spread itself wasn’t much to shout at either, it consists of just some plain cold cuts, cheese, cheapest white bread you can get from any supermarket in Prague, filtered coffee + some tea bags, generic brand yogurt & cereal. So, for the second morning, due to the long commute time and congested dining area, my husband decided to make our breakfast to go while I got ready in the room. As we were on our way out, I went in again to pick up a box of yogurt and what transpired soon after totally shocked us! The caretaker, named Vera, started SCOLDING us for being GREEDY to have a second serving of the breakfast. She started listing out every single item that my husband took earlier on in front of some other guests! Gosh, can’t she just wait and see what we wanted to do next before judging us?!  Mind you, it was not any sumptuous continental breakfast that we would die to eat more. We didn’t have a good impression of her from the start as she always looked very unfriendly. The only time when she does smile was when we paid her MONEY. As we have paid and would be leaving the next day, we had no choice but to stay the last night and left first thing in the morning without having any of her “precious, 5-star breakfast”. 

We also felt cheated on our laundry charges by Vera. They charge 7.5EUR for 5kg and 10EUR for 7.5kg. We felt our load was the most 7.5kg but she claimed it was HUGE and had to separate into 2 loads of 5kg thus charged us 15EUR. The laundry was returned unfolded, not fully dry and one of my favourite socks was lost! She really spoiled our visit to Prague......

Poor & unfriendly caretaker

1st time in Prague, a few of the lads visited for a birthday party, this hostel is perfect, really good price and the breakfast was great, dining room was very clean.

Some would say it is a little bit out of the way but its only a 15min tram ride into town costing 24CZK (less than £1) or a 3 day unlimited tram pass for 310CZK (£10), tram number 17 into town and tram number 3 back to hostel, or a 400CZK (£13) taxi ride which isn't too much trouble. 

We used our 3 day tram pass to get us to the airport on our way home, very easy and saves you the trouble of a taxi and the extra cost. The tram pass allows you to use the metro (underground) to the airport, take the tram into town then the Metro to Dejvicka, intervals of 5 to 20 minutes, then the number 119 bus to airport, there are signs at Dejvicka Metro station directing you to the bus, very easy to follow, takes around 40mins from town to the airport.

The hostel has very clean showers / toilets so don't worry about that, the rooms are basic and clean, anyone who says that they need updating or a lick of paint then go and stay in a hotel, what do you expect for the price ?

There is a bar which sells local beer at around 30CZK (£1) per pint which is ice cold and tastes great, they also do food, we sampled the food and you can't complain at all, we had a huge pork garlic steak meal which was great for less than £6 !!!!

I would recommend this to all my friends and family, I wouldn't try to sell it to them as a hotel but as a hostel you can't go wrong, it is situated next to a river and a golf course, 5 min walk to the tram stop and right next to a roller blade / cycle path which is well used, lots of cyclists and roller bladers stopped off for a quick drink at the bar.

NOTE : make sure you get the FULL address written down if you want to use the taxi's as only one or two taxi drivers actually knew where the hostel was, they all got there by phoning other drivers but it's something to bear in mind.

Shame the cock off was a non starter !!

Hostel Boathouse - great hostel.

If you only a few day in Prague you may want to stay closer to the downtown core. It was really easy to take the tram back after a day/night of drinking. We were there is March so we were the only people in the place. In the summer months I can this place being a happening place, but for the price and friendly staff you can't beat it. This would be a great place for people who love the doors and want to play on the water. Beer was cheap, the breakfasts was simple but good. Classic Hostel breakfasts.

Very friendly staff, bar is nice, a little out of the way.

At 8pm it was going dark: the guide said get off at Cerny Ceun and head toward the river. I got to the hostel and Vera said: you must be David. (I'd called earlier) I  had called earlier.... it was in 1995. Breakfasts are spot on and cheap: dinners are great and the beer is cheap as chips!

If you're rushing through Prague you'll want to be closer to the town center. This is an excellent hostel for those with time to enjoy the beautiful river setting, next to a golf course and a very popular roller blading pathway. The rooms and bathroom are immaculate, breakfast was good and the ladies are happy to make you meals (which you pay for), if you tell them in advance. They also offer a laundry service. 
The advantage to this hostel is if you're from a green city with lots of parks and you've been hopping from big city to big city,  you'll be missing nature. This place is the antidote. Also, it's a direct tram ride into the city, right to the Charles Bridge and a quick walk to anywhere. To get to the train station it's one easy transfer. If you're with a group and travelling to/from the airport, it'll be worth taking a cab. The bus connector between the airport and the metro was hot , over-crowded and smelly the day we came in. 
If you're an adament non-smoker it's important to be aware that Vera is a chain smoker and the hallways smell of cigarette smoke which doesn't seem to infiltrate the bedrooms, thankfully. I was travellying with a pre-teen and a teen who at first had a real problem with the smell, but because it was just in the hallway and we were out most of the day, they got used to it. 
Safe hostel which looks to be especially fun for groups.
The rooms were wonderfully quiet at night, without traffic noise however at 6:00am on all three morning we stayed, the green behind our room (remember, it's beside a golf course) got mowed. It was a LOUD mower. They finished by around 6:45, just in time for me to get up:-(
