Chani and Susana are fantastic people. The tours we had where incredible learning about this beautiful area. We saw incredible wildlife and nature! And interacted with the local community. There guest house is beautiful and the pool after a long walk is rewarding.

Fantastic experience

Very picturesque triangular cabins in the forest. Great for seeing wildlife: we have seen ospreys, white tailed kite, squirrel monkeys, humming birds, turtles, iguanas and lizards. The location is good in terms of nature, but Dos Brazos doesn’t have a lot going on, so be aware you will need to do shopping before you come. The facilities are good with a kitchen, and there is a nice pool which provides a great wildlife spotting hub. You can also pay $10 each to enter Bolita’s walks which are really good. It was very quiet during our stay, which was a shame because it boasts a great communal area with great potential. Wifi is terrible, but we had a very comfortable night and enjoyed our stay.

The Matapalo tour is great. One of the best days of our vacations. 

Amazong!

We spent three nights in what used to be a brothel for a booming gold rush town. Suzanna has turned it into a greatnplace to stay when visiting Corcovada. He husband, Chainy, is an excellent well informed and connected guide. The shared eating atea lacks a stove but at the temperatures we were experiencing we ate cold. Had one dinner which was very tasty. Bonus was the comfortable bed and pillow! Thanks for making our stay so enjoyable!

Great stay with fine people

I had a very relaxing visit. I most enjoyed seeing the caiman.   The fresh mountain water was wonderful. I particularly enjoyed the dipping pool filled with the beautiful mountain spring water. I also enjoyed walking along the river. If you are a birder there are hundreds to enjoy.

Caiman

We stayed here for 4 nights at the beginning of April and loved it.  We stayed in one of the small bamboo huts with a corrugated tin roof (sounds wonderful when it rains!) and used the shared shower and toilet.  The place has a lot of character as it was an old gold miner's bar with a brothel and jail cells. The jail cells were our shared shower and toilet!  The garden is also very pretty and there is a large covered communal area where we ate and chatted to other guests. Because we hadn't hired a car but had arrived by bus and then a taxi from Puerto Jimenez, Suzanne (the owner) supplied us with a very generous breakfast and an evening meal every day.
Along with some German guests who were staying at the same time as us, Suzanne's husband, Channi, took us on a wildlife walk around Matapaulo. We spent 5 to 6 hours walking along wide stony paths, trails in the forest, through shallow rivers and along a beach with Channi showing us lizards, snakes, poison dart frogs, spiders, sloths and monkeys. There were also 2 or 3 opportunities to swim in the deeper pools of the river and to stand under waterfalls. It was nice to do this tour with the German guests because, not only were they great fun, they spoke good Spanish and Channi's English was quite limited (a bit like our Spanish!)  The walk was quite strenuous for me as I have dodgy knees but I am very glad I went and Channi was very helpful on the trickier parts of the trail.
We didn't go into the Corcorvado National Park because it was very expensive and also we had no transport of our own. However, if you turn left out of Los Mineros and follow the path to the river for about a kilometre or so, then cross the river (it was shallow in April, though there are also stepping stones), you come to the Bolitas Guest House and they have 16 kilometres of trails to follow.  They charge $10 (but also take colones). We had a lovely day exploring some of the trails at our own pace. Maps are provided and the trails are well sign-posted. Once we had left the Bolitas guest house, we didn't see another soul whilst we were out walking and we were surrounded by dense, thick forest for miles and miles.
One evening, after some heavy late afternoon rain, Channi took us for a walk down the lane, only about 500m, in search of frogs.  He knew just where to look though there were loads to be seen. The noise of thousands of frogs croaking at the same time was deafening!  I was glad Los Mineros was not situated right next to the pond!
Suzanne was really helpful while we were with her and helped us organise transport onwards to Manuel Antonio.

Surrounded by rainforest

Great for nature and bird lovers, Tucan and many more visit the garden! Choice of rooms with huts without bath and private rooms. Very basic, pretty small but with mosquito net and fan. Communal area with tables and hammocks, no equipped communal kitchen. We were allowed to put something in the fridge, though. Big choice of tours with Johnny (only Spanish), who showed us frogs at night and sloths, monkeys, birds, plants on a beautiful walk along a creek near Matapalo (40 min drive, mostly gravel) with stops for swimming and a fresh coconut at the beach. The village of Dos Brazos is about 20 min on gravel road from Puerto Jiménez, has a tiny store, horse riding  and lies directly at the Rio Tigre with swimming holes. The owner Suzanna speaks English, German, Spanish, French and is a great source of information. Up the hill is a network of beautiful trails including views of the Gulfo Dulce and waterfalls. It belongs to the Bolita hostel, where we were warmly welcomed after the 25 min hike up, and can be used for 10 USD per person. 

Good budget option next to Corcovado NP

Stayed here over new years and had a great time. The cabins are small but have everything you need. Suzanna was a great host with impressive local knowledge and language skills.
We went on a tour to Matapaulo and saw heaps of wildlife, but walking around the area of the hostel was also nice.
The food was good too.
