The breakfast was spectacular! Maybe the best we had in Bahia. The people who work there were also great, relaxed and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable, with amazing cross breeze. We slept amazingly well. It's a grand old (yellow) building full of cracks and character. Right down by the water in center of Ilhéus. I would definitely stay here again.

Very beautiful hotel , good localization , center town, and the best : with  original and ancien elevator.Clean rooms and basic services.That hotel is near at Sebastian Cathedral and Bataclan.

Amazing Hotel for Price

A good place

it's a nice place to stay if you're looking an hotel in the center... very charming fifties style. there no more breakfast and it may seem a bit gloomy because long, empty corridors, very old elevator (thirties style) and it needs renovation but rooms are ok with fridge and very noisy a, some with sea-view.
it's the second time i stay there and i would definetely stay one more if it's still open if i come back in Ilheus.

The hotel was supposedly renovated in the eighties, but it's kind of falling apart and rather gloomy. It might have had more character if it had been left in its original state.
At least my room had a sea view, although there was not much else to recommend it. Staff were helpful but I have to disagree with the previous reviewer and say that it was the worst breakfast of all the half dozen places I have stayed so far on this trip.
There aren't may places to stay in the old town, which is pretty dead at night anyway. I took a bus down the coast for the beach, and since the buses are frequent, I would advise anyone who wants to see Ilheus to stay oout of town on the beach and come in to sightsee for a morning or an afternoon. You can see all there is to see in a couple of hours

Past its sellby date

I'd say this hotel might be fine for locals but I wouldn't necessarily advise it for Americans who tend to have a bit higher standards.  I loved the idea of this pretty yellow hotel but it seemed kind of creepy when we went to check in.  It's a tall, very old building with an elevator with the bar gate that you have to pull shut before you go up.  There's one person working the desk.  Their credit machine is "broken" and they only take cash, even tough they have a Visa placard prominently displayed.  There are plants growing out of the cracks way up high on the front of the building and there are missing parts to the top of the front of the building.

The rooms are spacious, but bare.  The small window air conditioner didn't look like it would do the job.  The windows don't totally close.  The top half is glass but the bottom half is shutter slats that never shut.  Mosquitoes and noise could be a problem.  We didn't  hang around long enough to find out.  We felt like we were the only ones there despite it being a high rise hotel.  We paid for the first night since we had put our luggage in there while we went looking for a suitable alternative.  We came back and got our stuff and left.

No restaurant.  Bare empty rooms that look like maybe they used to be ballrooms or meeting rooms.  It just wasn't for us.  I'd like to know if someone found it to be otherwise.
