8 reviewsThe owners here take great pride in their B&B! The entire place is very well appointed, nice, new & clean. Pleasing furnishings & decor for comfort & eye-appeal. Breakfast was FABULOUS (love the omelette with bacon & the fresh breads!)! The owners know a lot about the area & the history & are glad to make recommendations...plenty of brochures & maps there as well. The price was more than we would have liked, but this is Europe in summer & it was less than other things in the area...a perfect base for exploring the Flanders Fields! (just minutes away from Essex Farm where the famous poem was written) You can rent bikes & bike tour the fields, or go by car. Although there aren't any poppies around the Essex Farm, the poppies do bloom in June-July-August, so you do see them around some. Loved getting to stay in a family room, an unusual occurrence in Europe! Great black-out shades in the rooms, so dark we slept til 8:45! (this is important in Europe in Summer when the sun doesn't go down until 10-11pm! & rises around 4:30am! most places we've stayed don't have good blackout shades!) The only drawback: Coming in at night, halls are dark, some automatic motion-sensor lights would be helpful! They have lots of beautiful, creative lighting in here, so I bet this gets taken care of as soon as they figure out how! For others, though it didn't bother us: This is located right on a main street, but we didn't notice a lot of noise at nighttime. The bottom sheet was a terrycloth style rather than a smooth cotton sheet...it seemed comfortable, though. The bathrooms do not have walls that go all the way to the top & a door...although they are arranged for privacy, they allow a large amount of light into the rest of the room if someone is in there when others are trying to sleep. The price was high, but trust me, it's comparable for Europe & checking Ypres & Brugge, this was a well-reviewed, but inexpensive place to stay...although there is a campground in the area if you have your RV or tent that might save you some more.
