What a perfect stay! Right in the heart of historic Ghent, close to the castle, canals, shops and restaurants, easy to get to by tram from the main train station, quiet, peaceful, great hosts, great breakfast, comfortable beds, this B&B has it all. They only have two rooms, and they are on the main floor behind their furniture store while the hosts live above the store. You will be very fortunate if you are able to book into this delightful B&B.

This is the Best Place to stay in Historic Ghent

Very nice place with good central location. Extra big and clean room.
Wi-fi working fine.
You get breakfast in your room, because they do not have space for comunal breakfast.
Uncomfortable spring wire beds, I did not know they make those anymore.
Lady owner knocked several times on our door before check-out time to see when we will leave.

Nice place, uncomfortable bed

The Baeten Bed & Breakfast is located in a furniture store. Don't let that deter you from staying here. A few rooms down the hall in the back are spacious, clean and quiet. It is a two minute walk to the entrance to the castle. The breakfast will be delivered to the room at the time of your choosing and it was more than I could eat. 
 Not only would I return, I did, one week later.

A very nice B&B

We had a wonderful time here! Our room was spacious, looking onto a patio with plants. Everything was very clean, well heated and taken care of. The breakfast was amazing. They leave you a tray in the morning outside the room and you can have it outside, in bed or at a table. It's a fun place to take someone as a surprise!! The only downside is that the wifi doesn't quite reach the room fully, and that we only got to meet the owner on the last day of our stay. The girl who did the check-in was friendly, but not very helpful when it came to insider tips or a more personal chat.

Great hidden room right in the center

We booked one night here as we were torn between two B&B's, this one at le Jardin Bohemien. They are 2 minutes walk from each other and opted to stay in both. Plus points - very quiet room, stocked fridge at very reasonable prices, spacious, lovely garden out the back (we stayed in the dark grey room). Negatives - the shower drain was completely blocked which resulted in flooded bathroom floor. Good job we only had one night as we had to use all the towels to mop it up - could explain the smell of damp in the room. Not particularly clean. There were croissant crumbs all over the chairs, presumably from the previous guests. Breakfast delivered an hour later than requested and no knock at the door - the front door was locked and a connecting door we had no idea was linked to our room just suddenly opened - I was only half dressed at the time. 

I don't want to knock this B&B as we really liked it, but we got the feeling that the owners don't really care about it at all. Their daughter met us to give us the code for the door and after that it was a ghost ship. Communication was erratic and my last email enquiring about buying some furniture still hasn't been replied to - over 2 weeks after sending it. We looked around the store a few days before we were due to stay at the b&b and the guy in there didn't even acknowledge our presence, didn't look up from his book - probably the owner. 

Do stay but only if you are not expecting a good welcome or to buy anything from the shop!

Lovely room, not particularly welcoming hosts

We turned up on a Thursday night from a late Eurostar and were told that we had cancelled our reservation, which we hadn't. The owner was fairly unhelpful about the situation, we eventually showed on her emails that we hadn't cancelled the room.

Eventually after a lot of standing around and waiting, we suggested that perhaps she could help us find somewhere else. She said that would be difficult on a Thursday night in Ghent and begrudgingly went upstairs.

To her credit, within in 5 minutes she had found us a room 5 minutes walk away with the lovely Myriame Dolders B&B.

Whilst, these things happen and reservations do get lost we were underwhelmed by the owners' attitude and the problem was only solved by us pressing her to help us out.

Having said that, it looked like a really quirky, fun place to stay and we were sorry things hadn't worked out. Perhaps if you have reserved a few months ahead then it would be best to send an email a week or so before checking they haven't cancelled your reservation.

We did also receive an apology email from the owners.
