Absolute stunning display of the grandeur of life in a bygone time! The thoroughly planned and set out display of the tragic life of Empress Elizabeth (Sissy) was brilliant - as a history buff. The museum offers very thorough coverage of her troubled yet privileged life. No photographs were permitted; the audio guide was very good; numerous displays of the chinaware, silver and gold pieces, crystal and tableware blow the mind, and the display of gowns were stunning. Loved it all. Definitely worth a visit.

Opulent splendor of a past era!

The combined tour offers an interesting count of life at the imperial court at the time of Franz Jozef and his beloved wife Elizabeth (better known as Sisi thanks to the movies). It gives insights into the troubling life of Sisi and her struggle to cope with her new role as empress.

It is always amazing to see how royal livings are adorned. This place doesn't disappoint. The most interesting section for me was the exercise room. I don't recall seeing anything like that before. The museum can get a bit crowded and cramped and quite warm on a hot day. The silver collection is a bit ridiculous and shows the wasteful nature. It is worth a visit.

A walk through the life of an imperial

If you appreciate the beauty of everything hand crafted out of the finest material and metals and then painted beyond exquisite, this is the place to visit.  Just to let you know you can easily spend a couple of hours looking at all the fine dining items but stop and move on after an hour.  The good thing is you get a set of head phones in English.  Also, there is a special symbol on some of the cases that are a must see and listen.  So that helps.  Be sure you buy the whole ticket so you can visit SiSi apartments and learn more about her and Joseph.  Wow! 
One of the things I noticed in Budapest, Krakow and Vienna is that you are not allowed to take pictures inside prominent buildings.  This is for good reason...the place is crowded and people need to keep moving.  Smart.
We bought our tickets in advance through Viator for 29 Euros and it included the Palace, SiSi Aprtments, and the Imperial Furniture Museum (which we skipped).

Just Amazing

You certainly must see this site while in Vienna, but I would recommend you prioritize it behind Schönbrunn Palace and the Belvedere. There are so many sites at the Palace that it is a big chaotic and difficult to find what you are looking for. Additionally, because it is city center, it will be swarmed with tourists. We went just after opening but it still was very very crowded and not well organized. Highly recommend getting your tickets online to avoid the lines. To get to the apartments, you are forced to walk through 2 other exhibits - one of china/silver that we had no interest in and the other a deep dive into all things Siri, which was very interesting and well done. The apartments themself have excellence descriptions but the decor is somewhat spartan compared to what you will see at Schonbrunn.
