We weren't expecting much at $125 per night but were pleasantly surprised. It was clean and comfortable if a bit chilly. The walls were metal which would account for this. It is billed as being perfect for mountain bikers which I'm sure it would be. We could here the people in the next room talking so were glad they weren't up late.
Wooden verandah and sparsely furnished with a small refrigerator and shower curtained shower. There was a central communal room if you wanted to make tea and coffee.
My only hint would be to have a torch or the torch app on your phone as the stairs were not well lit at night. It was a good stay.

Good value for money

Had a really great time staying at Under the Mount. The hosts are obviously passionate about their business.  Clean facilities and a great kitchen/family entertainment area. The rooms are very comfortable, the outside fire pit was a great way to meet other travellers, and the local places to eat are a close walking distance. This was our second time staying here and we would highly recommend it to others.

Fantastic place to stay

Clean rooms and amenities. Well equipped common kitchen area. Outdoor fire pit was a treat. Easy walk access to Main Street attractions. Was a great base to cycle to surrounding towns on the paths and trails.

We’ll be back.

Great stay

I stayed at Under the Mount Motel in  Melrose after a few days MTB riding in Ikara Flinders.  It is a very comfortable, clean, quiet, modern, well located motel.  There is a very well equipped community kitchen, somewhere to securely lock your bikes at night, a gorgeous outdoor area under some gum trees to enjoy the fire pit after dinner and an e car charging port for those with a Tesla.  Hosts Don and Kirsten are a pleasure to meet and deal with for your stay.  
I highly recommend a stay at Under the Mount. 

Great motel

Very clean room and comfortable beds.   Would highly recommend and would certainly book again.    We were made to feel very welcomed by the owners too.  The outdoor kitchen was well equipped and a great way to meet other travelers.

Excellent and highly recommended

We only stopped in Melrose for the night on the way to the Flinders Ranges. Melrose is a great little town and we had a great time there. Under the mount was a perfect place to stop for the night. The place is spotless with lots of good facilities. The bed was super comfy with very clean lines and bathroom. Kristen was great and gave us some tips for walks and where to eat. Would definitely stay again next time in Melrose.

Excellent all round!

Wat can I say.  Myself and 13 of my cycling mates stayed here in the last few days for 2 nights after cycling part of the Mawson Trail.  For MTB'ers, you can't go  past this place.  Parking and wash bay for your steed.  Large games room.  Outdoor seating area and fire (didn't use as it was raining).  Very comfortable rooms.  Even the bunk rooms are good.  Because of our large group, I booked early and although there was a lot of emails between myself and Kristen, it was seamless and she was very accommodating.  The hosts, Kristen and Don are awesome people and will help you if they can.  We were a group of blokes ranging in age from about 47 to 74 and everyone in the group told me that this place was great for what we required.  Kristen and Don even put cooked breakfast on for us on both days and everyone loved it.  I'm pretty sure this is the first time they have done this.  Definitely recommend this place to anyone, not just MTBers.  This place and the hosts are awesome.  Well done to you.

Fantastic place and hosts

Lovely, clean and comfortable accommodation. Great hosts! We are walkers rather than bike riders but felt welcome, were given recommendations for walks and food and the location was great. We really enjoyed our three night stay.

An excellent value clean room for the price, comfortable, air con, fridge etc
Kirsten and Don were super friendly helpful hosts. Will be back, close to riding trails and  local eateries. Very good amenities to suit MTB needs :)

Excellent value clean room for price

Great accommodation and location.  Stayed with a friend for the Melrose fat tyre festival and loved it so much came back 2weeks later with my husband.  Perfect accommodation facilities whether you are there to ride or walk the trails or visiting the town for any other reason. Camp kitchen exceeded expectations and was lovely sitting around the campfire at night talking with the very knowledgeable hosts Don and Kristen. I will definitely be back!
