Old world comfort and charm in a central CBD location. Creatively decorated by the lovely couple who run the Astor - great characters ready to entertain guests with humour, local knowledge and stories. Immaculately clean rooms and bathrooms and a filling breakfast. Perfect place to relax after a bushwalking trip.

I spent my first solo trip to Hobart at the Astor Hotel. Tildy and Neil made me feel so welcome. Part of the thing that makes the place great is their hospitality. I booked a double room with a shared bathroom and it was perfect for what I needed. I am obsessed with the decor. Neil said this was owing to Tildy’s skills, and it shows. You can tell she’s put her love and thought into how the place is styled. Highly recommend for solo female travellers.

The Astor Hotel exceeded our expectations in more ways than one. We booked 3 nights and ended up extending our stay. It doesn’t feel ‘commercially run’ - it’s such a personal touch and the owners are really kind, generous and warm-hearted people who are in the business for the love of it all. It’s rare to find that nowadays. We slept really well every night and enjoyed the breakfast which at $5/person was really good value. Thank you, Tildy and Neil! Our bicycles enjoyed their stay too having an entire room to themselves. We have found our favorite hotel in Hobart and will certainly be back!

I love staying at the Astor and it is one of my favourite parts of visiting Hobart. It’s like visiting fun relatives - you’re welcomed in, feel comfortable straight away, and can spend time talking and laughing. In addition, it is always spotlessly clean, comfortable and has windows that open for fresh air! Tildy has the knack for answering your question before you ask it……. Need to store your luggage while you go hiking? Need to know where to put your muddy stuff when you return? Need a summary of this year’s comments from hikers returning from a particular trail? And she’ll give you this info with an anecdote or two that will make you laugh…… I wonder if she tells all of us hikers that other groups are smellier on return - haha. If you’re after a hermetically sealed airconditioned room, with a telly and a remote, this is NOT your place. If you’re after somewhere where you’re able to chat and relax and have a wonderful, clean and  comfortable base in central Hobart, the go and visit Tildy and Neil

We enjoyed our stay for four nights here.The proprietors Tildy and Neil were very friendly.They let us leave our luggage there too, pre flights home.

This was such a delightful stay right near all the waterfront/Salamanca attractions. A vintage 1920s original hotel that was full of character. Family run, full of charm, with so many treasures throughout - all managed by a passionate hostess with so much personality. Our room was extremely clean and tastefully furnished and styled. It was so nice to stay in such a historical part of Hobart with everything in a short walk from the hotel. We strongly recommend our ensuited room!

I so enjoy staying at The Astor when I am in Hobart.  It has so much history.  It is like step back in time. Tildy and Neil are very good hosts. The rooms and bathrooms are so clean. You could no find a better location in Hobart for the price.  It is so central to everything.  I would highly recommend staying there.  Contact Tilly and Neil direct for vacancies.


I stay at this Gem every time I go to Hobart. It is a lovely 1920s type hotel but well maintained, comfortable and clean. Some rooms have en-suites but for the others, there are private bathrooms along the hall. The location is convenient and the cost very reasonable. The hosts, Tildy and Neil are most welcoming  and accommodating.  There is a good continental breakfast available and the Sapa Rose (Vietnamese) restaurant nearby has great meals . I r
ecommend booking direct with the hotel.

I stayed at the Astor for two weeks while taking a short course in Hobart. It was perfect - the owners are lovely, the location is fantastic and the stay was affordable. The accommodation is fairly basic, which suited my needs, and the building itself is beautiful. I would highly recommend staying here.

What a lovely historic hotel run by a delightful couple. Elegantly furnished and spotlessly clean. Beautiful fresh flowers in the hall.  Continental breakfast was perfect with freshly baked bread,lots of cereals and a large bowl of fruit. 
This was a very lucky find and would highly recommend the Astor Hotel when visiting Hobart. Location is good as well.
