Although we were told the hotel was refurbished a year ago our room had several problems.  The water in the sink had air and sprayed all over, the toilet, after flushing, would knock loudly 10  or more times, the toilet paper holder came off the wall, the shower curtain rod was barely attached to the wall. The website in late July said the restaurant menu was being redone for summer of 2024.  Had seen on line that restaurant had bar bites menu, this was old information. When I asked at the front desk the women said she didn’t know anything because they don’t tell them anything.

Wouldn’t stay here again

I should have read the negative reviews more closely before booking. 

Pros: 
Beautiful view. Good sized room.

Cons: 
- All of the room fixtures are contractor grade and even then not all that well maintained. 
- The shuttle service is inadequate. They have a couple of older mini buses with only one usually in service. The pick ups are hourly and probably a third of the time there isn't room for all of those who are waiting. Additionally, you have to travel up a poorly maintained road so that after a few trips you feel like your insides are going to rattle apart.
- The service is lacking. If you want your room serviced you have to ask and they remind you to "be sure and leave a tip." When our bus arrived they had one person working the front desk, almost as if they didn't realize we were coming. When the water ran out for almost a day (no showers / no toilet) they made no offers to compensate us. They did provide bottled water if we asked. I complained enough they finally gave me a 25% discount for that one day.
- HIGH PRICES! We had to pay an extra $60 to have us and our luggage shuttled from the train station. An above average breakfast buffet is $33 per person. A grab and go sandwich is $14. You get the idea. All this with a $400 a night room.

If you are going to Denali I highly recommend staying in one of the hotels near the village. You can easily walk to the village. The shuttle to the park is a nice new full size bus. The food options are far more varied and better prices. (Yes, food is expensive in Alaska, but the Grand Denali is ridiculous.) Also, the views are great from virtually anywhere.

Disappointed

Christian at front desk was the best willingness & he is a keeper. Bar tenders were also friendly. View is phenomenal, best in Denali. Buy water soda at base of mountain to put in your room fridge.  Same with any Tylenol or what not. Will stay here again. Shuttle service to park entrance & base is timely

Stay here for view no one else has it

Location great! Room service was spotty! We had to call repeatedly to get room refreshed and yet no one would come, and when we called the front desk again, they had no record of the request. Too many interns doing important jobs so there is little accountability.

Poor room service and accountability for $500 per night hotel.

Wonderful lodge! The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were large, comfortable and very clean. We slept well!  Highly recommend.
We did not care for the restaurant. A larger variety of cuisine would have been nice. 
The drive to lodge is steep and winding,but the view from the top is beautiful.

We were extremely excited about staying at the Grand Denali Lodge, and upon arrival extreme disappointed quickly set in. 

First, the room they originally assigned us was filthy, had a horrible smell, and the view was of the hotel dumpster. The front desk blamed it on the fact that they were near the “end of season.” I have no idea what a filthy stinky room has to do with a date on the calendar.

When I went to the front desk, they did change my room but not until they strong-armed me into paying an additional $100. Yes, I did ask for a view room versus the filthy room I was originally w put in but the upgrade price was only $60 on the website. I was told they would not honor that price. Wow!

While I was very disappointed with their response, I did pay the fee, and got a decent room. 

Later that evening, when we went to the restaurant, the disappointment was intensified. 

The menu selection was very limited. Once again, we heard the reason for that was it was “end of season.” 

The waitress, was extremely rude. When we asked for bread, we were told they were 100% out of bread because it was “end of season.” The next morning on the breakfast buffet there was bread. Once again, this just goes back to the waitress being a very lazy person. She was argumentative and combative too, and not only with my uncle, but with other guests in the restaurant.

In summary, the staff has no understanding about good customer service. They are rude and crude. The facility is filthy. They lack the basic amenities that any hotel would offer and that are advertised on their website. The excuse they gave for everything was, “it was end of season.”

While we were there the first week of September, near the end of season, it was not the “end of season.” The hotel is still taking everyone’s money.

The hotel had no problem taking full payment plus  some, and no problem advertising amenities that they did not offer because it was “end of season.” My family and I were on vacation then… It was not the “end of season” for us.

In a nutshell, I believe you will get more enjoyment, better service, and greater bang for your buck a different facility.

On a sidenote, we booked the train and hotel room together. The staff on the train are no better than the staff at the hotel.

Read before booking - beware!

The hotel is situated high on a hill allowing for beautiful views. However, this makes it difficult to get to town. You either have to walk a steep trail or take the shuttle. The shuttle was a wonderful service and we definitely appreciated its availability. The front desk staff was extremely helpful. Our room was large and comfortable. 

Beautiful views!

We had no place to stay (everyone was booked) so we stayed here. So expensive. The walls were paper thin. We could hear everything that was going on the room next door. The toilet kept running. The price of breakfast was $30 per person. We paid for a room with a view and got obstructed. I wouldn’t recommend

We came at the tail of the season and even though things were more limited the staff was super helpful room was solid and it was a great experience would definitely return in the future. The bag lunches were an especially nice feature for getting out in the park

Great Late Season Service

Comfortable room with Double queen beds, coffee maker, refrigerator, TV,  Anything we needed we received quickly (extra blankets), more  coffee packets.  Restaurant/bar on the property with breakfast buffet or food to purchase, as well as an espresso bar.  Staff were always professional and responsive.
