I had been told that they had remodeled the Vino Inn. I'm scared to imagine what it was like before. They say they have uniquely themed rooms... a bed, a dresser, a typical motel refrigerator, a large scratch in the wall, a run down desk and half the lights and alarm clock unplugged when you enter is an odd theme that leaves me short of the Sicilian vineyard they said it would feel like. They have pictures of vineyard type grounds... our room had a rear door that faced a rundown shack and a discarded refrigerator in the middle of the dirt.
The TV service was odd as well. A remote that would work when it was in a good mood and a signficant number of channels that were audio only. I don't know, maybe listening to Friends is an attempt to take us back to the bygone days of radio that our parents or grandparents experienced. 

Their website promises fulfilling customer service. Our only contact with their staff was through a window with the curtain partially drawn and the person helping us handed us the papers to be signed and pointed at the pen that was in the track of the open window. When I finished signing, they simply pointed at the track again for me to put the pen back. The conversation was minimal to state the obvious.

I will say that the bed was comfortable, so that is what elevated this to a 2.

If this is the upgraded version I'm glad I missed it before.

The property is tired and worn out, but they tried to spruce it up with nicer duvet covers. Positives: Walkable to shops and food, as well as the beautiful park and City Hall.Negatives: The floor in our 2nd floor room was "spongy", the toilet seemed loosely connected to the floor - it moved and rocked, the bed wasn't comfortable and the "queen" was definitely a double. Poorly lit as well, and everything seemed to lean a little, towels were scarce, and we had to ask for toiletries.There's a balcony off the back, but it is uninviting - cobwebs, no place to sit and relax.Overall - not worth the money. I've paid less for better rooms

We needed a convenient simple accommodation for a return trip from our Carrizo Plain visit.Clean rooms, pleasant staff and good recommendations for the local restaurants.

Although we reach hotel late night, stuff was warm and very welcome.

Older facilities, but well kept, friendly staff, would stay again

MAKE SURE TO CHECK FOR BED BUGS.

We booked a stay for one night, 11/3-11/4. We stayed in room 103. 

We believe that we were bit by bed bugs during our stay. 

My friend stayed in another room at the same location. His family also experienced bites from the stay. 

My wife has bites on her ankles and I have bites all over my legs and arms. 

Watch Out for Bed Bugs

This is a very pleasant two-star motel near the center of Atascadero. The rooms were clean, the front desk staff very friendly and I was very comfortable for my overnight stay. A good value for the price.

Stayed one night on 9/16/23.  This motel has seen its day.  It's way over due for a full renovation.  The rooms are dirty and dated.  The shower fixtures are work. Stains on the rear back to bathroom door like oil or water. Bathroom door is banged up so you can see exposed particle wood.  Moth was flying around the room and attracted to my cell phone.  Spend a few more dollars and stay at a newer select service hotel like the Holiday Inn Express.  I do not recommend you stay here even if it's just one night.  The rate I paid was only $30-40 less than Holiday Inn Express and they provide a decent breakfast.
