This is not a hotel but rather a few rooms above a bar.  It is generally clean and adequately maintained.  Very unusual and quirky.

Rooms are all fine but some are a little small. There are lots of (narrow) stairs to negotiate so do need to be fit-enough for that.  There was quite a lot of noise in early morning, from the road out front or service area to the rear.  But this may not bother early-risers

Owner was very helpful, including in sorting out secure storage for our bikes.

This is not a hotel. It’s more of a drinking den for the owner and his pals with rooms up several flights of stairs. The upper rooms are particularly difficult to access and you will be expected to try to drag your cases upstairs by yourself

The rooms are tiny with not quite enough room to walk around the bed. The linen is shabby and the pillows are dirty. It needs a good clean. There is no hanging space for clothes so you will need to use a suitcase as a wardrobe. You will need to crawl around the room or you will constantly bang your head

The bathroom is dirty, outdated and minuscule. There is barely enough room for the loo and you will bang your head when entering and exiting the room

It is impossible to step into the bath and forget using the over-bath shower head!

The owner thinks it is all hilarious and says the fact that there are six flights of stairs and ti y rooms is all on the website (it isn’t).

Avoid avoid avoid! Stay in Cowes instead

One to avoid!!!!

We came upon this bar on our first evening.   I wanted to try an espresso martini so we ventured inside this small but perfectly formed, characterful wine bar.  It was obviously frequented by locals who all knew each other and we wondered whether we would feel a bit out of place.  On the contrary.  Everyone was very chatty and we were soon joining in the conversation and feeling comfortable and welcome.  Subsequently, we. visited this bar most evenings during our 7 night stay in Ventnor.  Brian was so helpful, advising places to go, things to do and local. eateries.  The drinks were so reasonably priced, there was nowhere else comparable.  Brian was always happy to chat and share funny anecdotes and the people coming in were relaxed and good humoured. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and nicely maintained. All in all a very memorable and enjoyable part of our holiday. Thank you!

Great fun and amazing value

Number 24 is not a hotel but rather a few rooms above a small bar in the main High Street and as such expectations should be adjusted accordingly. 

My stay here was fine and the owner affable although being over 6’ staying in one of the top rooms with combed ceilings wasn’t ideal - bath in en-suite with a shower attachment that was only suitable for in bath use and shaving would have been a challenge in the sink etc. Still comfortable bed clean towels and not noisy ( which had been a concern due to the bar below). My main criticism would be that the room door could not be locked and this needs addressing as some other reviewers have also noted. 

If staying again, which I would, I’d ask for a room that didn’t have the aforementioned height issues.

More than adequate

We stayed here one night and it was a strange experience. I phoned ahead to warn that we would be checking in late, but the owner gave the impression he had no record of my booking. When I mentioned Booking.com he said hadn’t looked at that website for some time but “if it says you have a booking, then you must have”. It appeared from this that he was not taking the accommodation side of his business very seriously.. 

When we arrived at the place (actually a bar with rooms upstairs) he told us loudly, in front of his guests and more than once, that we were late. It was probably his idea of a joke, but after doing a 25 mile charity walk it wasn’t what we needed to hear. He also complained that he’d have to do extra cleaning because of our walking boots and yet our boots weren’t actually dirty. We also found an old rail ticket from a previous guest on the floor, so maybe cleaning wasn’t that much of a priority after all. 

As for the room, it was noisy (above the high street with no double glazing) and the wash basin was the old fashioned type with no mixer for hot and cold water. There was no toilet paper dispenser. He didn’t give us a wi fi code (a basic service nowadays), and one that we found written on a scrap of paper in the hallway didn’t work.

Not a good place to stay

Bar 24 is so friendly. We had a few really quality night at this very smart bar. Prices are reasonable and the banter flowed. It is centrally located on the Main Street, Brian the patron very kindly lays on some Indian on Friday evening. We ShLl be back.

Absolutely superb little bar the host cold not be more welcoming. If you want a sweet little boozer on holiday can’t go wrong and the peroni is cheap! Would recommend. Would definitely return hero Ed every second it says a lot when it’s the place the locals hang out

100% reccomemd

My two girlfriends and I booked a table for the England game, Brian squeezed us in last minute and I’m so glad he did. 

Great atmosphere, Brian was warm and welcoming, very funny and our first round was very kindly on him! He dished out hot sausage rolls at half time, which were delicious, and kept us entertained all evening. 

Matthew behind the bar was lovely too and all the locals were very friendly. All in all a fabulous evening, thank you for your kind hospitality, just try and get rid of us now Brian! X

What a find, superb bar in Ventnor and Brian is a great host, very hospitable and knowledgeable of the area. The location is on the high street and close to the shops and restaurants. Great vibe and atmosphere especially when interacting with the locals. Thank you Brian for making us feel so welcome👍

The owner was super friendly and told us so much about where to go in Isle of Wight which was very friendly. A great place to watch the football and great atmosphere - 10/10 would recommend! Even brought us half time snacks. Thanks very much for a lovely evening
