We found Rutland Lodge to be in a poor condition with the conservatory door far from security safe, very mish mash furniture, cluttered kitchen, uncomfortable beds and very hot bedrooms with minimal ventilation options as the windows appeared fragile, shower doors did not close fully causing water to spray out onto the floor, cleaning standard were terrible with staining on bedding, sand in baths and dusty shelving  and parking was terrible for the amount of cars parked. 

The positives were the location to Torquay and Babbacombe, the size of the main house was good with the exception of the kitchen, the outside area was a relaxing spot and the property to the rear (A) was 5* compared to the main house. 

The price asked for what you got in the main house was a bit steep.

Annual family holiday

This is in my mind a perfect holiday house. A large main house well maintained with 2 cottages to the rear also in great order a large hot tub and outside sheltered seating area and dining area excellent for large family groups . Very well equiped house bedrooms are large the beds very good all ensuit. They are well located about 1 mile from main town and harbour and beaches. There are local shops pubs ,restaurants within easy walking distance and a regular bus service just yards from the house. The owner Richard is very welcoming and helpful

The perfect holiday house & cottage rental

This was an amazing house great location and very helpful owner, location was great and you could walk into town easily too. This house is beautiful and spacious and as soon as I walked in I thought I was in the film home alone with out the Christmas scene. It is definitely a house I would come back to and tell
People about. Wish I could have stayed longer and already missing it .

Home from home

Relaxing bed and breakfast. Clean large room. Very warm welcome from the owner Richard. Continental breakfast, Limited choice but more than enough to fill you up as we don't like a full English breakfast. Loved the small kitchen idea to use if you wanted to bring a take away back. We didn't use but a great idea for family's. Also tea and coffee available all day. A few niggles, could not connect to the Internet, Hoover and cleaning products on the landing all the time. But overall a good place to stay and we would return.

Warm welcome.

My wife and I stayed with our seven year old son for the last week of the school holidays. The B&B is nicely located so that you have about ten minute walk to Torquay harbour and not too far from Meadfoot beach (which we wouldn't have found without the help of Richard who runs the B&B) and Babbacome Bay. 

The rooms were clean and fresh looking with everything we required. The bathrooms was also spotless and finished to a high standard.  

Breakfast takes place in a sort of conservatory at the end of the building. The room is beautiful with grape vines overhead. The breakfast offered was perfect for our family with a selection of cereals (proper boxes, not miniatures), cheese, freshly made bread, croissants and cold meats. Fresh tea and coffee is served but what really pleased me was that you were made to feel that you could help yourself too.

There is a really chilled and relaxed ambience around the place and it was exactly what I was looking for. 

I cannot comment on whether there is wifi or not because I wanted a week off from that too!

A refreshing change.

We booked Rutland Lodge the night before we arrived for two nights. We were greeted by Richard, who was a wonderful host, helpful and welcoming without being intrusive, if you need anything he is there with the ring of a bell!

We stayed in a superior double room which was spotless, and had a super comfy memory foam mattress. The room was beautifully decorated (I loved the wallpaper.) The en-suite was large, modern, and had an amazing roll top bath tub, as well as a separate large shower. 

As well as the room you have access to the shared kitchen area, and a living room area, very handy if you wanted to store anything in the fridge, or if you wanted to bring some food back with you. 

Breakfast was a fantastic continental option, with homemade bread, cereal, plenty of fruit, yoghurt, a selection of spreads.  We were slightly late going for breakfast but Richard was fantastic to accommodate that. 

It would have been nice to have a full length mirror in the room and the door handles (especially the bathroom) were a bit squeaky, but other than that, Rutland Lodge is faultless.

Fantastic stay

We arrived early one Saturday and greeted by Richard who was more than accommodating. He pointed out parking spots and told us that we could leave our bags there until the room was ready.

When shown to our room we were immediately blown away by the beautiful victorian interior. The bed was extremely comfy and the en-suite newly refurbished to a very high standard.

The continental breakfast offered a wide selection and fresh tea or coffee was served by Richard each morning.

As it was our first time in Torquay, looking for things to do was our first priority. Richard knows the area very well and was always happy to suggest ideas and even provide us with directions.

We would definitely recommend Rutland Lodge and we look forward to staying there again very soon!
