Do not be put off by the front at the moment this place is fabulous! 
We were here for Sunday lunch even though it’s only partly open. This doesn’t matter because it’s all about the food and the service, nobody anywhere near here can touch the food these people serve daily .
The Sunday lunch is to die for, the food is of a high standard and always delicious, you will want to keep coming back I promise you . 
They still have a lot to do building- wise, but it’s not their fault, believe me they have had an unbelievably unlucky time in 2023 but amazingly they soldiered on like the hard working troupers they are! Delighted they’re open no matter what and can’t wait to go back for New Year’s Eve buffet .

Dinner

This was our first Sunday Lunch at the Angel since they started serving whilst significant refurbishments are still taking place.  We can't wait to see the place when it's completed.
As a "foodie", I can honestly say this was the best Sunday lunch that we have ever had in a restaurant and can't praise both the chefs and staff enough. 
If you want a very high quality Sunday lunch without any pretence, then this is for you.
Simply first class.

Wow Wow Wow

Great Party! Excellent ambience with good food and drink. The Family Hosts and their staff are professional, efficient and, most importantly, friendly and welcoming. The Angel at Topcliffe is as good as it gets and highly recommended. However, please note that it is undergoing major refurbishment and will not be fully open until a little later this year.

Having travelled down from Scotland in my campervan to fish at cundall I found myself lost for somewhere to stay the extremely helpful young lady at the post office said pop next door and ask Dave, what an absolute gentleman he let me stay in his car park, Dave and Maggie are the most caring people I've ever met there staff are fantastic and I will return next year once the refurbishment is finished, totally committed to success I applaud them, thankyou all I've had a great time.

Absolute heaven 

We took over the hotel for my son’s wedding at Lodge Farm on 17 th August and our stay was perfect- yes they are in the midst of extensive renovations but it honestly never hindered our stay at all. 
On the Wednesday evening we all gathered for freshly cooked pizzas in the garden, cooked on two outdoor pizza ovens, they were absolutely delicious and the staff waiting on were so lovely, polite & friendly. 

We moved indoors to the function room as the evening grew chilly and my sons played music and we had a singalong - wonderful! 
Breakfast the next morning was delicious in the newly decorated conservatory, so much so that friends of ours went in search of the sausages & black pudding! 

The bedrooms haven’t been refurbished yet (apart from new shutters which I loved) but they were comfortable and perfectly fine for our stay and I imagine they will be of a very high standard when the reno reaches that phase. 

Thank you Maggie, Dave, Katie & ALL the staff, you have been incredible and contributed to the best weekend, nothing was too much trouble. 
If you can do this during a reno I can’t imagine how amazing it is going to be on completion. We will be back to see.

AMAZING

I organised for my sons year group to have their end of year party at The Angel. Katie has been amazing throughout the process and the whole team were amazing on the night. Food, decor and the attentiveness of the team was just faultless.  Everyone had the best time. Thank you so much for helping to make it so memorable for the children. 

End of School Year Party

The hotel has been taken over but as always great. Is currently being refurbished and won’t be finished until later on this year. Can’t wait. The hotel has gone from strength to strength and gets better every time I go.

Angel

I stayed here one night when travelling for work. When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly man on reception who asked if I wanted a table for dinner that evening and then taken to my room. The bed was large and super comfortable. It was lovely and warm in the room but not too warm for sleeping. My room faced on to the main road and was really quiet despite this given it is in a quiet part of town. I had dinner in the restaurant which was delicious, the biggest bowl of mussels I've seen with fries and bread. I slept really well and had a lovely shower in the morning. Breakfast was a lovely experience. As some other reviewers mentioned, the coffee wasn't out however they did regularly check if I wanted a top up. There were lots to choose from and having had a peak at other tables, it all looked really well cooked. 
The only slight negative was that the wifi was slightly patchy in my room. It worked perfectly on the desk which was fine for me to finish my work and to be honest I wasn't too fussed about using it from the bed but can understand how some people may wish to use the wifi to watch something on their laptop in bed.
I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely be back for a night or at least for dinner again!

Lovely one night stay over

We booked a table for 4 for lunch.  A really warm welcome, both from the staff, but also the pub as it was warm and welcoming too.  Excellent food - can recommend the fish pie.  We shared a platter of Yorkshire cheeses.  Theakstons beer was perfect.  Great staff - thank you gents (one a lovely Maltese gentleman) for your service and sense of humour coping with four mad ladies!  Would recommend to anyone.
