Went for a weekend. What a lovely place. Fantastic decor the owner Kate has a brilliant imagination. We stayed in the red room with four poster bed very opulent. The bathroom was fabulous. Some nice touches  such as candles in bedroom and bathroom. Shampoos, soaps, bubble bath all gratis. Will definitely stay again. Would recommend.

Stayed here for new years eve and couldn't fault the place. OK it might not be to everyone's taste but it is clean, friendly and the service from the owners was top notch. We got a good welcome, all the facilities you need and more. Tin of celebrations in the room, shortbread, mince pies etc and loads of soaps, shampoo, hairspray etc in the bathroom. Thank you for a nice cosy stay. 

Friendly welcome

There are some really good points to this hotel, the fact that they have actual proper toiletries to use instead of the teeny tiny bottles of everything. The friendly owners and their son who gleefully showed us to our room. The central location too. 
The hotel itself and it's interror and decor are the first thing you will notice, the less is more statement hasn't quite reached this place yet. Every surface seemed cluttered with stuff, including the walls. 
Having to share a single bathroom, seemingly with the whole hotel, wasn't a positive experience. You were either sitting in your room waiting to here someone leave it so you could get in or worse, using the bathroom with people knocking on the door to be in. 
The room itself was small, draughty and not terribly clean. Sugar and hair pins all over the floor. 
At this point we had already paid and going elsewhere wasn't an option as apparently there were two events on that weekend so we made the best of it and left early on the Sunday morning and had a day in Whitby instead. 


An acquired taste 

Informed room would be ready for 11.30, arrived 12.30-  smell of cat pee as soon as you walked in, said cat laid on stairs,room unmade from previous night, toilet unflushed, other bathroom dirty.  Rang proprieter as no where to be seen, call answered by a boy who then appeared.  Message from owner stating she had a head injury but within an hour was seen coming from the pub.  Avoid

This review starts by asking the month of my visit, well I can only put the month my visit should have taken place.

I contacted the owner the week prior to our visit, she said she would text me the code for the door, although I would probably not need it as they would be in. Fast forward a few days, to me again asking for entry details and getting no answer.  We set off in food faith that our room was booked and someone would be there to meet us. Twenty minutes from scarborough, I received a text to say that our room had been booked out to someone else I  error, and there was nothing the proprietor could do as they were away for the weekend. I was told to book a room nearby and they would refund the difference.  We booked into the cheapest hotel/ B&B we could find and advised the owner. After several texts from me, with no response, I still await a proper apology and the refund as promised. I would not recommend  booking here, as the owner seemed very unconcerned about the double booking or rectifying their mistake.
