This hotel (if you can call it that)  filthy..smelly..rude staff.. no heating, the bar celling was falling in, bed sheets had stains, shower looked like it had not been cleaned for months and towels terrible grey white colour..

DISGUSTING PLACE ..

I cannot believe this hotel ( if you can call it that) is still open. it is dirty, cold, unfriendly and I felt unsafe. the outside of the building is falling apart and as you walk into reception it smells of damp and everywhere has cobwebs and dirt. When I booked in the lady on reception was friendly and as my first impression of the outside and reception was bad I decided to ask to see my room. I went inside and could not believe the state of the room particularly the carpets and walls - these were dirty stained and in need of repair. I went back down stairs and said I could not stay here to a new lady on reception and she was sarcastic and rude to me as though the things I was saying were untrue. I was not able to stay at this place so I booked a room at a near by premiere inn.DO NOT STAY HERE.

An average hotel which looks a bit run down from the outside but friendly, helpful staff and complimentary tea and coffee.

Rooms were a good size with clean, comfortable beds. Considering we only paid £13 per person, very good value. Free parking too.

Good value for money

The pics looked okay for a cheap stay... wich turned out to not be cheap at all, cause it was an awful stay.
Soooo dirty. Cobwebs all over, not like only in 1 corner, just every corner and in the loft and bathroom and lights. 
Wood floor/parket, very dirty. Seemed liked it hadn't been moped or cleaned in a decade.
The desk assistant didn't speak good english, wich is fine with me if the messages get through. It was a bit hard. 
Unhelpful staff. 
The toilet didn't flush, asked for assistance, just told me to try again :/
The bed was very stiff, like lying on the floor. 
Noisy, you could hear everything from next rooms, and creaking of the floor if someone stepped out of bed somewere. Also noise from the street.
Internet nearly non existant.

2 Good points though.
- Parking was okay. But propably not enough if the hotel were full.
- Not far away from restaurants, but still like a 10-15 min walk to a variety.

WORST EVER

Rang around hotels in rugeley trying to get a room last minute this was the only hotel with vacancies. Its was absolutely horrendous. Smelly freezing limited/no hotwater never again would rather sleep in a tent!!!!!

What a disgusting place. 
Couldn’t even stay 1 night. 
Room stank of bleach. 
The carpet was so dirty I couldn’t take my shoes off. 
Holes in the walls, mouldy walls. Wallpaper hanging off the walls. 
The second room I was shown was worse. 
Shower room mouldy. 
Car park dark and dingy.
No one from the management has returned my calls or responded to my emails!
Don’t stay.

After booking I read the reviews and was slightly worried, but as I was literally only using it for an overnight stay I decided to go with it. 

It is not as bad as some people are making out. Yes it could do with new carpets, yes it’s a bit rough and ready, but for the price it’s excellent value for money. The bar doesn’t serve food but there are a lot of takeaways within a minutes walk, and also a petrol station opposite for snacks. 

I took my dog with me, and was a bit annoyed that they asked me for extra money for her when this wasn’t mentioned anywhere else (although I notice now this has been changed on the booking site I used). Sadly she wouldn’t settle because there were some noises from the corridor all night - but if I had been on my own it wouldn’t have bothered me. 

The bed was comfy, the shower was great. It was a trek up two flights of stairs for room 12, but it was great value for money. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again if I thought my dog would settle this time. We left in the end at 5am because I was conscious about her disturbing over guests All in all a good stay, just frustrating it was my dog who couldn’t sleep and I had to pay extra, which I wasn’t expecting, for the privilege

Overnight Stay With A Dog 

I only stayed here one night but that was more than enough. I didn't expect The Ritz for £45 a night, but I expected the ensuite to be there for more than aesthetics!  I booked this last minute due to a family emergency, but chose to travel the extra miles from Stafford to get private showering facilities. Big mistake. After reporting to Reception that there was no hot water coming through the shower after 20 minutes of endless fiddling with the controls, all they said they could do was apologize. No offer to use a shower in another room, or a partial refund. The Receptionist did however give me an email address for my complaint. Having taken the time to put things in writing and then chase, I received a response stating that they had not received my complaint. I sent it again. Two weeks after I chased and nothing. I chased again today and received another email stating they had not received my complaint. I sent it again.  This afternoon I finally received a very rude and abrupt response stating that they were not prepared to do anything, no apology or partial refund, and this was their final decision. Their argument being that I stayed the full night. Believe me if I had not needed to stay in Staffordshire because someone close was admitted to hospital, then I wouldn't have been checking in at some ungodly hour and may have tried the shower before I went to sleep, but as it happebs, I was shattered and didn't. If you want a fantastic hotel, with exceptional facilities and great customer service DON'T CHOOSE THIS ONE. STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE. ANYWHERE ELSE. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY

Extremely poor hotel. Poor service. They should pay guests to stay!

Smelly, damp on the walls, dirty hallways, rock hard bed, netting ripped, driveway full of water due to being a dirt track. Not worth £45 per night, avoid this at all costs!! It’s supposed to be named after the tree in the grounds that’s 200 years old, the tree is in better condition than the building.

If it wasn't 12am when we arrived we would have switched hotels.
 The pictures say it all. 
Considered staying in the car as it did not feel safe or clean. Cobwebs, urine stains, door knobs missing, previous guests items, no kettle.
And the smell! I've never smelt a smell like it, we had a family room. One of the rooms it was overwhelming us, so 3 of us squeezed into 2 single beds.
Lumpy uncomfortable, hear noises from other rooms. 
Worst night ever.
