Our stay at Moorsticks was lovely. Secure parking, rooms were spacious, clean and had all the amenities you needed. 15 min drive from city centre. Decent cooked breakfast with continental in the morning. I would recommend to anyone wanting to stay near Norwich. 

Great B&B in Norwich 

(We have obviously had a completely opposite experience to the majority of the other guests who have stayed and reviewed this B&B, although I am glad that the guest in the neighbouring room was also very disappointed!)

We were looking forward to stopping at this B&B after reading the reviews and seeing the photos online. Everyone said that the Host could not do enough for you, so we had high hopes for it. There was a section on Booking.com for any notes to the Host, so I wrote that we would be requiring one vegetarian and one meat English breakfast for our stay.

We’ve always received an email from previous Hosts when we’ve booked through Booking.com, but we didn’t from this place, and maybe that should have alerted us to what our experience was going to be like! I therefore wrote an email to the host almost a week before our stay as we still hadn’t heard from them, just to introduce ourselves and said that we would be needing to stay again a few times should everything go well. I asked if the rooms were ground level as I use a stick/walker to get about and added a reminder about the vegetarian breakfast. Unfortunately the Host did NOT respond to this either. I tried to call a few times over the next few days but the line was always engaged, so I presumed that the email and phone numbers were not live.

A couple of the reviews mentioned that you need to use the correct postcode so we decided to try the phone number again to get this for our Satnav, but again the line was engaged. As we were about to head off in the car we tried one last time and thankfully the Host answered explaining that both postcodes get you there, but the NR10 is for newer satnavs. She asked what time we would be arriving as she was busy later, we were aware that check in was at 3pm and said that we would just drive around Norwich until then, but she said that it was fine to get there a couple of hours early, so we put the postcode into the Satnav and gave her our ETA of 1pm.

Arriving at exactly 1pm, we pressed the buzzer at the double gates and the Host came out to open them for us to park in the car park. She then led us inside through the dining room to an extremely steep stairwell asking if I was going to be ok getting up to the room as I was using my stick, which made it obvious that she definitely hadn’t read my email. 
One thing we noticed immediately was the faint smell of cigarette smoke as we entered the dining room. The stairwell is extremely steep and was very dirty/dusty the whole length. At the top of the stairwell is a small fridge with a few cans of drink and bottles of water with an honesty box if you didn’t bring your own refreshments. The B&B is a purpose built extension with 4 rooms along the very narrow corridor - mind your head as it’s in the eaves. Our room was at the far end, with a nice bench DIRECTLY outside the door, Hubby had to lift all the bags up and over the bench to get them in the room and I doubt it meets fire safety standards! Next to the bench is a table with a small basket of bathroom items to use if you had forgotten anything.

The Host led us into the room, explained about the keys, the code for the electric gate and also said that there was a blackout blind behind the white blinds at the window - which was very high up! The Host told us about a nice chinese takeaway situated behind Morrison’s down the road, but said we couldn’t bring any food up to our room, we would have to eat any food downstairs in the dining room. We asked for the internet password and She said she would give it to us a bit later along with leaving the chinese menu for us to look at downstairs. There was a breakfast menu on the desk to complete and leave downstairs by the evening so the Host could have everything ready for breakfast in the morning. We said that we had requested a vegetarian breakfast when we booked, and she said she thinks she might have some Linda McCartney sausages in the freezer. She asked us what time we would like breakfast, we said we were early risers, so suggested 7:30am, she grimaced and said, “What, on a Sunday……!!??” Not wanting to put her out, we said whenever she wanted to start breakfast would be fine; the lady next door was booked in for 8am, so we said that would be fine.

Hubby then unloaded the car and we had a proper look around the room……

The B&B Information online says there are views of the countryside from the rooms, but the window in this room and bathroom are high up in the sloped roof, so we couldn’t see out of either of them. The room had a double bed, a desk with a kettle, cups and tea/coffee/milk/sugar, a small flatscreen TV on the wall, a nice sized sofa and two bedside tables with over lights. There was also plenty of storage space in the open wardrobe, with hangers, spare pillows and a hairdryer. The bathroom had a nice big bath AND a shower with towels and 2 small complimentary shower gels.

This COULD have been THE BEST B&B we’ve ever stayed at, but there were far too many issues. The room was not very clean at all! You have to stand on the sofa to even reach the window, which Hubby did in his socks to open as the room smelt faintly of smoke (the B&B is a No Smoking establishment, but it is obvious that the Host smokes and the smell has lingered!), only to find lots of dead flies and thick dust on the window sill! The bed sheets were certainly not clean, they looked unchanged with what looked like the imprint of the previous guest still evident; the shower cubicle was wet around the base and was full of limescale and dirt around the outer edge; the mirrors in the room and bathroom were extremely grubby and full of dust; the lamps were dusty & the metal corroded; the TV was thick with dust; the wardrobe shelves were all dusty; the toilet seat was broken at the rear; the bath panel was badly cracked in the top left front corner; the cupboard handles and toilet roll holder were thick with dust and some rust/corrosion; there were lots of dusty cobwebs everywhere. I like spiders, so a clean spiderweb is absolutely fine by me, but these dusty ones hanging from the ceiling had obviously been there a VERY long time; the kettle was full of black bits and limescale; the tea tray was grubby; there was an extremely dusty glass bowl on the desk with a cactus in it; the extractor fan in the bathroom was full of dirt/dust; and when we opened the toilet - to top it all off - had faeces in it - absolutely disgusting!!! BUT Worst of all was the AWFUL bed! It was as though it was filled with straw and newspaper!! Just putting the smallest amount of pressure on the mattress with my hand was extremely noisy, creaking like straw and scrunched up newspaper, so you can imagine the noise when sitting/lying in the bed!! It was SO uncomfortable, but the B&B was fully booked, so we couldn’t ask if there was a different room. We popped back downstairs after an hour to see if we could get hold of the WiFi code so we could video call our daughter who was home alone, but the host wasn’t around. Perhaps the WiFi code should be printed on the breakfast menu, so it’s in the room already - IF the WiFi actually reached the room in the first place!!

At 4pm we decided to go out to find the Chinese takeaway. The host had kindly left the menu on the table in the dining room where we had hoped she had also left the WiFi code, alas just the menu. Hubby was going to be watching the Football matches on the TV later while I planned to catch up with my Daughter and then watch some YouTube videos, but after pressing the bell in the dining room (where the kitchen/office door is), the host was still not around to ask for the WiFi code. 

We found a quiet side road by a field to eat our chinese and got back to the B&B at almost 6pm. We pressed the office bell again and thankfully the host came out this time showing me the WiFi code on her phone. We were excited to finally get in our room to video call our daughter, but we tried for about half an hour with nothing working! Hubby went back down to double check the WiFi details as not even the Hub name she gave us was showing up on our devices to connect to!
Unfortunately the host wasn’t too concerned that it wasn’t working. Hubby eventually connected to the WiFi in the dining room, but once at the top of the stairs it just disappears! The host said that the WiFi does work and there’s nothing she can do if it doesn’t reach the rooms!! It should say that the WiFi is only accessible downstairs in the dining room in the online information!! We NEVER book a B&B if it doesn’t have WiFi in the rooms because we have to stay in contact with our Daughter who is home alone via video call!! So there goes our plans for the evening!! Hubby watched the England game but as I had nothing else to do, I attempted to sleep in the awful bed! The guests in the next room arrived after football (a mother and son) and we could hear them talking and every move in their squeaky beds. 

I didn’t get any sleep because of the awful mattress, plus the springs dug into my back and hips. Hubby tried to get some sleep on the sofa at 3am so he wasn’t in too much pain for the drive home in a few hours, but that didn’t work either. We had no choice but to get up at 4:30am to have a bath/shower and pack everything. The deep bath was the only nice part about the stay, although the taps on both the sink and bath make a horrendously loud noise when you turn them off, which we were concerned about being so early; If we could hear our neighbours talking and getting into bed, we hoped our bath tap didn’t disturb them! The walls are VERY THIN!!

We went downstairs at 7:30am, a little early just to access the internet and finally video call our Daughter. Turned out our neighbour was already downstairs and she wasn’t too happy either. We asked if our early bath had disturbed her, but it hadn’t. She said that for a purpose built B&B the walls are far too thin and she was disturbed by the guest on the other side. She complained about the internet to us and said how expensive it was to stay here, considering everything. The host came out commenting how we had all come down too early and that she wasn’t ready for us, but I reassured her that we had only come down early to access the internet, and she could take all the time in the World, but she said it another two times after that, which made us feel extremely uncomfortable!

There were a few small individual cereal boxes on the small breakfast table, but no milk or yoghurt for them, so we couldn’t have any of that. The host brought a small jug of orange juice out for each table with enough juice for a glass each. Another guest came down a short while later and took a box of cereal, and when the Host came out again she asked if he wanted some milk. The milk/yoghurt should be on the table to help yourself to without feeling like you’ve got to ask. The hot breakfast was already cooking, so we just waited for that, it came out shortly after on nicely warmed plates with a slice of toast each. Hubby had to remind the Host about the missing sausage, which she had left in the oven. 
Our neighbour asked the host if she had any soya milk for her coffee, to which the host responded a little abruptly, “No I don’t keep that in because it goes off too quickly as not many people ask for it. If you had asked me beforehand I would have got you some.”  It made us feel very uncomfortable (as it had with the WiFi issue) and when the host went back into the kitchen, the lady told us that she HAD in fact written it in the notes section at the time of booking, as we had for the vegetarian breakfast which she hadn’t looked at either!

Unfortunately because of all the issues we experienced we will NOT be returning! A clean room is THE most important thing for a B&B, along with a decent bed, and neither of these were obviously important to the Host. 
It was certainly not worth the £95.

Awful Experience!

Private secure parking and within a good driving location to Norwhich Centre. Property situated on a quiet setting which was nice. Room and overall facilities was on the small side but was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Owner was nice and a lovely selection for breakfast which was great. Overall for 1 night it was a lovely stay.

We enjoyed our stay. The room was a good size with a full size bathroom with a good shower and bath. Moorsticks was in a good position for exploring Norfolk and close to Norwich. Amanda is a great host and had good suggestions of places to eat. 

Great stay

Although hiccup with our booking through Hotels.com, Amanda accommodated us in our chosen room. Her attention to detail for our utmost comfort was splendid. She recommended lovely local pub for food and we were not disappointed. Breakfast was a feast! Accommodation was immaculately clean.

Friendly host and good location

Me and my friend stayed in a Twin room for the night of a wedding and we had the most lovely stay! The breakfast was exceptional, it was quiet and peaceful and absolutely spotlessly clean - we even hunted for the smell of the air freshener it was that nice! The service and chats over breakfast made us belly-laugh and feel so welcomed, we felt safe and comfortable for our entire visit. We are looking for another excuse to stay again! Thank you thank you thank you xxxxxxx

Wonderful wonderful wonderful!

Just what we needed after looking at Norwich and the cathedral for hours . Amanda couldn't be more helpful and made us  pots of tea ,once we had seen our room . You can come and go as you please as she gives you a front door key as well as a room key .

Disappointed. Booking (via Tripadvisor) cancelled 7 hours after I had an acceptance email, due to being full. Apparantly another booking was made before mine, but TripAdvisor presumably wasn't updated.

Clean, warm, big breakfast, value for money and really friendly host, thank you!
The location is convenient to get to Norwich city but also nice and quiet being in the rural area, the room is no frills however good taking into account the price. Big full English breakfast, nice to have fresh fruit as well, the owner is lovely and helpful.

An excellent stay, we were really impressed with this comfortable B&B. A great little find with a really friendly host. Breakfast was great too! No complaints and we’ll be back. Couldn’t do more to help you.
