I have just spent the last week at the Pig of Lead with 5 friend and what a wonderful week we have had!

The property is situated in a lovely location not far from Matlock and we made a few trips to the local villages for various bits of shopping (mainly fabric!!!)

Each bedroom has an en-suite bathroom which was ideal for our needs and large rooms downstairs to enable us to get together and sew to our hearts content all week.

Great comfy furnishings and log burners made for cosy evenings and the kitchen and all equipment provided meant we could cook, bake and feed ourselves with no end of variations.

A totally enjoyable week!

Sewing Retreat

5 large and 1 bunk bed  en-suite rooms. We had the privilege of meeting the owners who are so eager to help. 

We had a sewing retreat week and just loved the house and it’s space and character.

Matlock is a beautiful place and we had the pro village of the river illuminations. Fabulous week 

We also found amazing local fabric shops

What a fabulous house and location. Beautiful former pub, b&b now holiday let. Well equipped kitchen.

What was once probably a good small hotel doesn't translate into a self catering holiday let unfortunately. There would need to be some major work on the exterior and outward space which is not fit for purpose and I couldn't let my 7 year old out there as there was broken, rotten wooden borders and random furniture which had definitely seen better days. The interior was dirty, the kitchen was greasy and the fridge also unclean. All lights fittings were covered in dust and cobwebs. There was a rusty keypad and light switches were also rusty and unclean. There was no washing machine which was strange when marketed as self catering. The shower or sink in 2 of the rooms did not drain. It is on a very busy road which was not clear from the description. We thought we were going to have a tranquil stay in the Peaks but we had to get out each day as the house wasn't somewhere we could relax. Bitterly disappointed and Sykes and the owners response was extremely poor. Won't be using Sykes again or visiting the Pig of Lead.

Very disappointing

Our first trip away in 18 months and the Pig of Lead was worth the wait. Sensible precautions in place left us feeling secure. Room 1 was well appointed, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The lounge is well stocked with reading matter and comfy seats, and breakfast was fantastic- the oatcakes especially! Saving the best til last - Julie, our host is lovely, accommodating and runs a fantastic place to stay.

Great B&B

We stayed for 3 nights in the lovely Stock Room, absolutely lovely. We couldn’t fault anything at all (also felt very safe COVID wise) & loved our stay. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this B&B to anyone visiting Derbyshire & it’s in such an ideal location for so many places.

Highly recommend, fantastic in every way

Stayed two nights lovely very large bedroom nicely decorated and well equipped room  ,very warm welcome on arrival. Breakfast was all you could ask for very good nothing to much trouble. Large private car park  All ready booked again returning September

Lovely stay 

This lovely B&B is 10 mins drive from Matlock Bath and the Heights of Abraham (the main reason for our visit to the Peaks) and on the edge of the National Park. The B&B is actually on the junction of Clatterway and Via Gellia Road (with the entrance being on Clatterway) if you are using a sat nav the postcode took us about half a mile past the B&B initially! Not the fault of the hosts just one of those things.

We were in Room 5 which was at the top of the building, very spacious, clean and comfortable. Fantastic bathroom, and large tv and small fridge were added bonuses.

Breakfast was lovely and Linda has managed to resolve the issue of removing self service to cereals etc by providing a full and varied menu via a waitress service.

Linda was also able to provide helpful local knowledge of the area.

The property also has a secure car park which was also good to have.

Please note via Gellia is a main road with a lot of lorry traffic. Although this busy during the day and early evening this will not disturb you through the night as it quietens down considerably. The benefit of it being on the main road is that it gives you easy access to the other tows in the area.

Ideal location to explore the Peak District

The Pig of Lead was perfectly located for us to continue the Limestone Walk. The welcome and introduction was very friendly yet secure. Indeed Covid security was well-maintained throughout our stay. The room was comfortable and breakfast was superb. Our thanks.

Excellent place

Stayed at the Pig of Lead 2 nights this weekend to have a break away and catch up with friends. Its a hidden Gem we were made very welcome and Julie even took us up.to the pub in her car which was very much appreciated. Breakfasts very tasty would highly recommend

Lovely stay in the peak district

We stayed at the Pig of Lead because we used to visit  many years ago when it was a pub. 

We felt safe there with sanitizer everywhere to use and social distancing was always adhered to. With masks worn by the owners at all time. 

The room was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast was great even with my intolerances,  they couldn't have been more helpful and nothing was too much trouble. 

Would certainly  recommend, we will be going back.
